References in resume Resume references plays a dual role,

i.e. as a supportive body for a candidate and the authenticating body for an employer.

The company asks for many details, resume references is one of the information the company needs from the applicant.

Consider various aspects while giving resume references. Broadly the references can be of following types:

personal contacts

business or professional contacts

social contacts

The personal references such as your friends, relatives know you from conduct and behavioral point of view.

The professional references you mentioned are the right person to focus on your skills and expertise.

If you are writing the resume for the fresher, there is no need to mention the references as the candidate is a complete fresher and has no work experience

If you are an experienced candidate, you need to mention the names of the references on your resume.

Reference Sheet Include name, address, email address

and phone number of each reference

Make sure you ask permission from your references before including their personal information on reference sheet

Consider giving your references a copy of your resume and/or a short bio so they will be prepared to talk to employer

People who make the best references are:

• Former supervisors (whom you got along with), former coworkers, former teachers, colleagues.

• Friends, neighbors, community/volunteer acquaintances can be used as general character references.
