Research and Planning

During the pre-production stages of a film the writers will investigate real life events and facts to get inspiration for stories in their films. This is know as research. This may also be important so that no offensive events are used in the movie, for example using events that happened in real life that left people disturbed. The writers may need to get permission to use these stories.

The creators/writers will then map out and draft ideas for settings and characters for their film after they have a rough idea for the story. This is known as the planning stage and this also takes place during the pre-production of the film.

Other Planning Stages Needed To Make A Horror Film.

Other planning stages that may need to take place in order to create a horror film may also include deciding on relationships between the characters, who is going to turn out to be the killer, how each of the victims is going to be killed off.

They will also need to decide on the mise-en-scene for the film. For examples any weapons, make up, masks and other clothing that may end up being used in the film.
