Reflection on the
72nd Convention
October 29-November 2, 2015
Georgetown, Washington, DC
The 72nd Annual NASDAD Convention has
come and, sadly, gone. What a fine week-
end we experienced in Georgetown, Wash-
ington, DC, at the Washington Marriott
Georgetown! The weather was very favora-
ble and we were within walking distance of
many amazing historical sites and neigh-
borhoods. Together we fellowshipped, wor-
shipped, dined, and learned about what
NASDAD is doing around our world in
support of dental missions. We also cele-
brated seven of our colleagues who were
recognized for joining the ranks of those
with Life Membership.
The Spiritual Emphasis for the weekend
was brought to us by David Trim, Ph.D.,
F.R.Hist.S. who is Director of Archives, Sta-
tistics, and Research at the General Confer-
ence of Seventh-day Adventists. On Friday
evening we learned about how the Advent-
ist Church went global with the the mes-
sage of the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Today, the worldwide nature of the Seventh
-day Adventist Church is one of its most
distinctive characteristics yet early Advent-
ists believed that God did not call them to
work anywhere except in North America!
Gradually, that changed, as they came to
understand that the great commission and
Revelation 14 really meant “all the world”
and “all people”. The Sabbath Sermon fea-
tured the gospel and Ellen White both of
which set out very clearly how Jesus
reached people of His day. In our own day,
in our own country, where society is highly
secular, old methods of evangelism are in-
creasingly unsuccessful, a return to Christ’s
method of reaching people offers a way
forward. This method comes from being
actively involved in our communities and
having compassion on people, as Christ
did. We found Dr. Trim’s delivery of these
messages engrossing, entertaining, and in-
spiring as well as challenging.
Dear NASDAD Members and Friends,

Research at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists

Three of six LLUSD students, attending, Ky-
im Mung, LLUSD c/o 2017, Cheiryl Pactanac
(c/o 2017), and David Bowen (c/o 2016) led the
worship through music for Vespers, Sabbath
School, and Church. Kyim diligently worked
to prepare songs, some new and some old,
which would set the tone for spiritual, wor-
shipful, and reflective services. In addition,
these 3 students also provided the special mu-
sic selections.
Sabbath School program during each conven-
tion focuses on DENTAL MISSIONS. We en-
joyed 2 presentations from students from LLU
School of Dentistry who participated in Ser-
vice Learning Mission Trip. Elaine Bersaba,
LLUSD c/o 2018, was not able to attend the
convention but she shared a video that she
created after her Service Learning mission trip
to Haiti. Also, Ruslan Zmievschi, LLUSD IDP
c/o 2016, and Austin Owen, LLUSD c/o 2018,
shared a presentation about the mission trip
they took to the country of Bangladesh and
expressed how these mission trips were life
changing. They
learned to take the
time to listen to the
people around
them and to make
an effort to learn
more about the per-
son. They expressed that these mission trips
created a desire to continue to participate in
future mission trips, to bring tender care to
those who need it, and to show God’s love
through tending to the physical needs ex-
pressed. In addition to the presentations by
the students, Doyle
Nick, DDS, MS pre-
sent about how
NASDAD is work-
ing to support dental
missions around the
world. He told the
group about how
NASDAD accepts
donations of dental
equipment, both new
& used, so that

NASDAD can assist mission projects in need
of equipment? Over the past few years,
brand new mission dental clinics have been
established in Namibia, Angola, Togo, and
Guyana. Donated items were used to help
make these clinics become a reality and
monetary donations to the Year Around Mis-
sion Money (YAMM) fund were used for
these and many other projects. Next year
NASDAD plans to send a Pan-xray to the
small African of Lesotho where the Maluti
Hospital Dental Clinic will be the only clinic
in the ENTIRE country to offer Pan X-ray
service. There are so many opportunities to
show God’s tender compassionate care to
those who so desperately need it!
Two offerings were collected, the YAMM
offering during Sabbath school which to-
taled $8000 (and counting) and the Mitchell
offering during Church which totaled $375!
Projects such as shipping donated dental
equipment, refurbishing equipment, and
purchasing supplies, equipment, and materi-
als are only possible when NASDAD friends
and family support the Year Around Mission
Money (YAMM) fund. Outgoing Deferred
Mission Appointee Missionaries benefit
from the Mitchell fund. Did you know it’s
not too late for you to support the YAMM
and Mitchell funds? You can visit our web-
site, http://nasdad.org/online-giving/, to add
your contribution to the YAMM and/or
Mitchell funds. 100% of the funds are used
to support the appropriate projects. Not one
penny goes to operating expenses or any-
thing else!

Before the banquet concluded, we had the op-
portunity to express our THANKS to the out-
going NASDAD President, Landon Libby. Dr.
Libby was the fearless leader for 2 consecutive
years and brought a reinvigorated energy to
each meeting and event. He was presented
with a clock, engraved to commemorate his 2
years of service to NASDAD. We look for-
ward to his continued involvement and ener-
gy to be infused into the organization. We
also welcomed our next President, Dr. Rob-
ert Stacey of Loveland, Colorado. Dr. Stacey
has already been working on the convention,
October 14-17, 2016 at Cheyenne Mountain
Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado so we
hope you can make plans to join us next
year!
Sunday morning, after getting an extra hour
of sleep thanks to the time change, Dan
McEowen, DDS presented 4 hours of contin-
uing education to the about 30 dentists, den-
tal hygienists, and students. The subjects
presented were The Use of Cone Beam Radi-
ography, Treating Sleep Apnea and Snoring
in the Dental Office, and Minimally Inva-

sive Implantology. Dr. McEowen shared his
vast experience in a practical, helpful way that
was much appreciated.
On Monday morning, Dr. Ron Dailey, Dean at
LLU School of Dentistry, had an opportunity to
give an update about what is taking place at the
school. The school is approaching another ac-
creditation so all departments are in full gear so
CE Speaker, Dr. Dan McEowen
that the process is a success. He told
about several areas within the school
that have been recently updated to be
more efficient, such as the Radiology
department.
If you were able to attend this event, the
NASDAD Board of Directors would
like to THANK YOU for being a part of
what made the 72nd Convention success-
ful and special.
If you were not able to attend the con-
vention, the Board of Directors would
like to invite you to attend in Colorado
Springs next October 14-17, 2016! Come
and be a part in making that weekend
special and unique!

YAMM (Year Around Mission Money)
A YAMM offering is collected during the Sabbath School program. YAMM funds
are used throughout the year to support the various mission projects that are voted
by the Board of Directors, such as shipping donated equipment overseas to a
mission clinic.
Mitchell Fund
The Mitchell Fund was formed in honor of Dr. J. Russell Mitchell. Its purpose is to
help outfit new missionaries who are Deferred Mission Appointees getting ready
for mission service. It can be used to purchase specific supplies and equipment for
the clinic that would be helpful in an overseas practice or personal needs for the
family to help in the transition.
