Unit RatesJust like rates, except evaluated so thedenominator is one. You divide here.

This is really like finding the “average.”

Create your own PowerPoint - Pick any theme/topic of your choosing.

- Find real data/stats.

- Compare these ratios, rates, unit rates, and analyze what they mean in real life.

Requirements- 1 example of a RATIO – on 1 slide

- 6 examples of RATES (denominator cannot be 1)

- Simplify those rates to UNIT RATES on a different slide- Bar or Column Graph of UNIT RATES

- Make an X Y Scatter Plot showing all 6

- Visual aides!!!- Labels!!! - Colors!!!

- Last slide should analyze what the results mean to you in real life.

Ratios:The gas in a leafblower needs tobe mixed with oil.

But, you need tomix the right amountor it will break.

An example is 50:1This means that for every ounce of oil, you need50 ounces of gasoline. Both units are measurementsof volume, making this a ratio.

Horsepower per Pound

So what does all this mean???-Well, with the exception of the 71 year-old, WWII-era Harley, my old Suzuki has the lowest horsepower per pound rate in the study.

- Also, it looks like the Buell is a good choice since it is an improvement over what I have, and is much cheaper than the newer Harley and the Triumph.

-The KTM’s numbers make it seem pretty dangerous! It is almost the same weight as the Buell, but has about 100 more horsepower. Some cars don’t have that much.

= too slow!

= Crazy, but fun!
