From the Engine Driver
This week I will be in Orange, attending the Western Primary Principal Association Conference with a number of my principal colleagues. Jan Riley will be relieving as Principal on Tuesday and Wednesday until Liz Gleeson returns from professional learning in Sydney. Liz will then take over as relieving Principal on Thursday and Friday.
You may have noticed a new fence currently being constructed along the Harris Street side of the school. This fence is part of work being carried out to improve the learning and play facilities for our support unit. As the fencing is required to be a safe height for our students, it was decided that it would be placed along the length of Harris Street rather than just outside of the support unit. Construction of the new fence is due to be completed over the next couple of weeks. Eventually we hope to continue the fencing around the entire school.
Have wonderful week…

Can you help in the Canteen?
We desperately need volunteers to help in the canteen otherwise we will not be able to offer this service for our students. Ideally we need
two volunteers each day. If you are able to help, please leave your details with the school office.

K-2 Silverton Excursion
The K-2 Excursion to Silverton was amazing. We got to use ink pens at the Silverton School and Mr Allen told us all about it’s history. When we went to the Gaol Museum some ‘naughty’ children spent some time in the cells. After lunch at Penrose Park everyone got to play on the equipment and then have a relaxing bus ride home.
Aboriginal Dance Workshop
Some of our students attended an Aboriginal Dance Workshop at Broken Hill High School last week. The workshop was run by Redfern Dance Group. Students were taught about four elements (fire, earth, water, wind) and created their own dance in groups.
Broken Hill Eisteddfod
Our infants and primary choirs attended the 50th Broken Hill Eisteddfod held at the Civic Centre last Monday. Both choirs sang beautifully and represented Railway Town proudly.
The infants choir sang “A whole new world” and “I’m a believer” and the primary choir sang “Zombie” and “All star. The infants were also commended on their performance by the adjudicators. Well done to both choirs!
Congratulations to Eamon and Cohen Clavel (pictured) and Harry Wilmore who also performed in the speech and drama sections of the Eisteddfod.
Eamon won first place in his poetry recital and Cohen won second place in his division. Harry performed in “The boy who cried wolf” with a group that won first place, including ex-student Austin Clavel.
