COMMUNITY OUTREACH REVMA TEAM UPDATE:
The Love me Fix me- spay/ neuter voucher program is up and running. James Dress at the Sonoma Animal Services is still waiting to hear from the Veterinarians who committed to being a part of the program but have not turned in their enrollment form. We are having a bit of back log of clients due to the paper work, but hope to be full steam ahead soon. We thank all those who are participating and the positive energy we have received. Animal Services has not mounted any full scale advertis-ing yet until we are comfortable that all is functioning in good order with the hospitals. So, if any problems questions, please contact James Dress 565-7113 or myself at 707 321-7696,drngwalters@comcast.net Check out the website: theanimalshelter.org. Eventually those hospitals who are participating will be listed on this website and a link to your website will be possible. Also they have a couple of good handouts titled: Top 10 reasons to spay or neuter your Pet and Spay and Neuter Myths. These might be good to go along with the brochure about the program that I will be getting to you in a few weeks as a part of your welcome packet. Any procedures that you have completed don't forget to send in your reimbursement forms as soon as possible. We should have more details to follow next newsletter regarding the Potential REVMA Medical As-sistance Program The committee is working on a comprehensive list of all Veterinarians working in Sonoma County and this should allow us opportunity for further outreach by our organization. Pete Henriksen has been working directly with Compassion without Borders and will give us an up-date next newsletter. Nancy Walters, DVM

Will you help Homeless With Pets assist People Living Homeless in Sonoma
County with their Animal Companions?
We are writing to introduce Homeless With Pets a service working with homeless people and their animals in the county. We are a resource that you might find useful in case of inquiries from homeless people coming into your surgery. We hope you are interested in our work and are able to help us. Homeless With Pets focuses on people living homeless with animal companions. Our offer includes:
distributing donated food and other animal supplies
wellness and basic vaccines clinics
some help with funding when animal companions have veterinary care issues
helping promote greater well-being through programs of humane education, training for people and their animals and infor-
mation to reduce risks when living homeless to animal well-being
networking with local providers and bringing together homeless communities and opportunities for spay/neuter
grooming opportunities Homeless With Pets has compassion for both ends of the leash and working through the power of the human-animal bond we help both the animal companions and those living homeless. In this email we're just focusing on our wellness and vaccine clinics and the need for help with veterinary care as we don't want to bombard you with a long email. If you've questions and comments please contact us at homelesswithpets@gmail.com or 707-847-8DOG or visit homelesswithpets.org So please read on: 1. Can you or a colleague spare an occasional 2-3 hours to volunteer at a basic wellness and vaccine clinic ? 2. Does your practice have some resources to donate to assist the wellness and vaccine clinics ? 3. Would you be able to offer an occasional lower cost or free specialist consultation or in-surgery treatment ? Vaccine and Wellness Clinics We are currently running 2-3 clinics a month and would like to run more across the county. The clinics are opportunities for a homeless person's animal to have a wellness exam, to be vaccinated and receive flea treat-ment. It is importantly a time when people's concerns about their animal companions can be addressed and their minds put at ease. Some basic care can be offered at these clinics for minor infections and wounds. It is an opportunity to try to problem solve any emerging issues, to have a conversation about spay/neuter and any behavior concerns. Treatment cases need to be directed onto a properly equipped veterinary surgery and sometimes we have re-sources to help with veterinary costs. The clinic is a in trailer with all basic supplies and vaccines. We have a volunteer vet and vet tech each time and see between 12 and 20 people each clinic. We normally only see dogs and cats. Would you be interested in a conversation about volunteering your time and expertise or would one of your vet or vet tech col-leagues ? We would really welcome a conversation with you or a colleague about what volunteering for a session would en-tail and the infrastructure and support that is there for you. Please email homelesswithpets@gmail.com or call 707-847-8DOG Do you have resources you could spare ? We are donor funded and volunteer based. Consequently we are always looking for resources. Our biggest financial outlays are vaccines and flea treatments. Any donations or ways to buy these more cheaply would be appreciated. Does your practice have antibiotics or basic medications that are part used or coming close to expire? Donations are really appreciated and we have a list we can send on of the limited range of items routinely used. Do you have any food at the practice that you could pass on to Homeless With Pets to be donated to people living homeless ? We are always happy to collect any food and food samples. Perhaps you would like to have a donation box for your clients to contribute food and other items. Some practices have boxes year round and others at specific times like Thanksgiving. They have had tremendous responses from their clients. Please email homelesswithpets@gmail.com or call 707-847-8DOG Liaising with us Homeless With Pets is very respectful of veterinary professionals and their time. We would like to increase the network of practices that we work with. There are emergency situations and times when in-practice care is needed. Sometimes we are able to help the homeless per-son raise funds or have some funds ourselves to subsidize treatments and tests. We would like to develop our network of pos-sible practices that we could approach if an animal is in need across the county. Please email homelesswithpets@gmail.com or call 707-847-8DOG
