N F O R MWELCOME TO OURNEWSLETTERWelcome again to our i3 Decommissioning Partners Newsletter.

Within this edition of the newsletter we are focusing on the MSSSRoof Replacement Project which i3 are undertaking. Due to the hardwork of all involved on this project, can I take this opportunity to saywell done to the team, and please keep up this great work as safelyas possible.

We continue to receive a good number of i3 Safety ObservationCards. We need to remain focussed on improving our workingenvironment. To do this please keep filling in the Observation Cards. This month's award winner is evidence that the filling out of theObservation Cards can and does have a positive influence on site.

Mike Lacey, i3 Project Director

Roof Replacement ProjectAs part of the ongoing works within MSSS, i3 have commenced the Roof Replacement Project, initially focusing onthe 3rd Extension roof area.

This project predominantly focuses on the removal of the existing roof finishes, followed by a replacement roofconsisting of multiple layers of weather-proofing membrane before finally installing Aluminium Kalzip seamless roof-sheets and associated fixings and flashings.

On a lighter note:In a bid to increase productivity, the i3 Project DirectorMike Lacey threw down the gauntlet to the Project team, with a challenge to strip +50m2 of the old roof surfaceand weather proof within a single day. The reward wasfor each member of the team to receive a baconsandwich, courtesy of Mike. On Wednesday 14 June, the project team successfully met this challenge by

removing an impressive 54m2 and true to his word Mike organised for each team member to receive their sandwich.

Mike Lacey presents a £50 voucher to StephenHurst for the Top Observation in June 2017.

PROGRESS

In June 2017, as part of the collaborative developmentof i3, members of our team worked with SL and aConsultant from Renault-Nissan to facilitate andcomplete a Value Stream Mapping workshop.

The system used was based on Value Stream Mappingand Six Sigma (6σ) which is a set of techniques andtools used for process and business improvement. SixSigma seeks to improve the quality of the output of aprocess by identifying and removing the causes ofdefects or delays and minimizing variability in thebusiness process.

Six Sigma projects are typically carried out within anorganization and follow a defined sequence of steps withspecific value targets, for example: reduce process cycletime, reduce costs, reducing waste, increasingefficiencies, improving safety etc.

During our facilitated workshops, the i3 team reviewedand mapped the key activities of the entire work-streamof i3 projects, covering all functions including; quality, commercial, bid management, early engagement, project management, construction operations, riskmanagement, project controls etc.

The data captured has been reviewed and distilled toextract the key elements of work that are needed todeliver efficient progress and safe project success.Areas for improvement have been highlighted andadditional focus can now be given to those functions ortasks.

The exercise held in June is further evidence of i3’scommitment to collaboration and continuous incrementalimprovement to bring added value to SL. Furtherworkshops will be held to focus on areas whereadditional improvements can be made.
