Present Perfect Continuous

Form:

Ex: I have been learning

English for 14 years.

(+) S + have/has been + V-ing.

(-) S + have/has + not + been + V-ing.

(?) (Wh) have/has + S + been + V-ing.

Ex: She hasn’t been coming

home.

Ex: How long have you been

living here?

The Present Perfect Continuous relates past activities to the

present. It has two main uses:

To express unfinished

past.

To express the present result

of past activities.

To express unfinished past.

Ex: I have been living

here for twenty years.

Ex: How long have you

been working

here?

Remember the verbs that rarely take the continuous.

Ex: How long have you

known them?

Ex: He has had his

motorbike for two years.

To express the present result of past activities.

Ex: You look tired. Have you

been running?

Ex: Why are your clothes

so dirty? What have you

been doing?
