PWD Department of Chhattisgarh

The Public Works Department of Chhattisgarh is

a state government owned authority and is

in charge of public sector works in the

State of Chhattisgarh.

It is the part of Ministry of Public Works Department and is

entrusted with the construction and maintenance of buildings

for most of the government departments and public

undertakings. It also has the construction of

bridges roads, and infrastructure.

The PWD Department of Chhattisgarh functions under the

control of Secretary to Government and deals with policy

making on all matters concerning the Building organisations

and Water Resources Organisation of the State.

The public works department is responsible

for construction and for the maintenance

of Government buildings.

It has its own budget for construction and maintenance

of buildings. Under the Deposit Contribution

Works also, it undertakes the construction

on behalf of other departments.

The buildings under PWD fall under two categories

viz., institutional / commercial buildings

and residential buildings.

The first category covers office buildings, commercial

complexes, colleges, hospitals, libraries, etc.

The construction of quarters and hostels are

included under the residential buildings.

There are building programmes under the budget

heads of other Governmental Departments for which

budget provision is made under

the respective budget heads.

PWD department of Chhattisgarh takes the authority

to undertake two kinds of repairs such as

ordinary repairs and special repairs for the

maintenance of buildings.

Ordinary repairs are carried out annually and include

activities like white washing, colour washing, repairs

of patches, replacement of small broken parts,

painting of doors, etc.

The repairs which are not frequently used are special

repairs and include repairs to the damaged portions of

building, floors, doors and windows and replacement

of water supply and sanitary fittings.

The PWD department of Chhattisgarh plays a

major role in the economic, Commercial

and tourist development of the State

of Chhattisgarh.

The Public works department is a service Department, it

is entrusted with all the developmental activities like

Planning, Design, Construction, Operation and

Maintenance of all types of construction works

in the entire state of Chhattisgarh.
