2.Literature Review
Background
Pune Metro is a proposed metro rail project in the city of Pune, India, and its surrounding
Metropolitan Area. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2013.Background
The preparation of detailed project report (DPR) work was undertaken by the Delhi Metro RailCorporation and they submitted their report on 15 August 2008 In 2010, the Pune Municipal
Corporation (PMC) delayed submitting the proposal to the Union government to make
provisions in the annual budget for the project. Due to red tape and bureaucracy, the DPR wasapproved by the Maharashtra government only on 12 June 2012
Pune Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to execute for the
project, will be formed.
Confusion over elevated or underground metro
Initial plans were to build a few underground and rest elevated. But the people of Pune did not
want elevated routes. They felt that Pune's roads could not bear more traffic that will occur due
to the construction of elevated routes and there were some roads that were too narrow for thepillars of elevated routes. It was decided that all the routes in the city would be underground
(though the map and the details of phases showed elevated routes). In November 2011, the
Maharashtra Government declared that all the routes would be underground. However, in April2012, The PMC declared that all routes will be as per the DMRC report, mostly elevated and
partially underground (in core city areas)

4.Findings
The survey conducted to analyse the importance of metro service in
pune .According to the survey conducted among 40% of the people areof opinion that if metro facility comes their travelling time will bereduced drastically. but as we say nothing comes free there is a mixedreaction about the pune metro plan 30% of the people are of opinionthat it will increase te traffic block, it will cause more congestion,20%of the people are of opinion that it will cause an ecological imbalance.since pune is famous for its natural beauty metro construction willcause an havoc. some people are of the opinion that no furtherimprovement can be done like flyover, subways if metro is comes.some patients ,Old person will suffer due to tremendous noise and aie
pollution Mumbai Bangalore are examples for that.

5. Conclusion
12
7/29/2019 Pune_metro Rail System
13/15
REPORT ON PUNE METRO RAIL SYSTEMS FEB-2013
The main conclusion that can be drawn from the findings statedabove is that metro though it will reduce the time of travel andalso traffic drastically but as we say nothing comes free we have
to pay a large penalty for that pollution, traffic congestion etc aresome of major problem that we will have to face during itsconstruction. Also metro construction in banglore, delhi andMumbai has cause serious mishap in the citizens life so accordingto the survey around 60% are against the metro rail system theyare of the opinion that increase in buses and other transport ismuch better than actually going through all the chaos of metrorail system construction also the cost of building a metro systemis huge
6. Recommendation
In addition to stating the findings as a result of the surveyconducted, we would
also like to make certain recommendations that even though metrorail system can save our time and money in future but the penalty wehave to pay now is too huge so instead of that we can also go for morebus services etc also the amount for construction of metro rail system
is huge which can be used effectively for some other purpose likeresearch for bio degradable fuel building of sub ways etc.
