IbegantheWonderWomenphotographyprojectin2018(partoftheArt'sroomproject),thankstoagrantfromtheCambridgeArtsCouncilandtheMassachusettsCulturalCouncil,toshowtheresilienceandstrengthofhomelesswomen,survivorsofdomesticviolence.

I revisit themythandsymbolismbehind thepopculturewonderwomanheroine,mixingthisstrongiconwithAfrican,Asian,andEuropeanculturalreferencesIamfascinatedwithfor years.My thought is to recreate amorepersonalheroine, a closer andmore inclusiveone, inaworldwhereboundariesbetweenculturestendtoblurandblend, tocreatenewrealities.Towardstheriseofnationalisms,Iofferavisionofinclusiveness,acelebrationofourdifferences.

This project evolved into a celebration of womanhood, strength, femininity, resilience,generosity, intelligence and talent. In parallel with the #metoo movement, I decided tofocus foronceon theeverydayheroines, since indifficult times,weneedmore thaneverinspiration and hope in our lives. These women are smart, funny, generous, loving,successful, wise, strong, brilliant, beautiful, different and unique. I will continue thisprojectin2019andmaybebeyond,inordertoshowtherichnessofthedifferentvoicesandperspectives.Itismorethaneverneededinthispolarizedworld.

After organizing a test photo session with employees of Transition House, a shelter forsurvivorsofdomesticviolenceinCambridge,MA,USA,in2018,Irealizedthepotentialoftheproject anddecided to open it up to evenmore amazingwomen, instead of focusingonly on homeless ones. One of their employees had said after the shoot: "we too, arewonderwomen":indeed,theyare.
