Sweeps and Blends

• Sweeps – a feature that sweeps an open or closed section along a specified trajectory• Blends – a feature that allows smooth transitions between specified cross sections.

Pro/E WILDFIRE, week9

Create new part called “S-bracket”. Sketch this on Top datum plane. Make it be symmetric by the front plane and make the right side of rectangle be at the right datum plane. Check.

Extrude it one-sided 60 into bottom. Check.

Sketch a trajectory on front datum plane. Its reference is rightdatum plane and the orientation is right.

Sketch a trajectory on front datum plane. Check.

Highlight the trajectory and select “Variable Section Sweep”.

The sweep arrow should start from the part. Click “Sweep as Solid” and set “Constant Section”. Click “Create Sweep Section”.

Sketch the “I shape” on the sketch plane. Check.

Check.

Create new part called “blend1”. Create two parameters at Tools>Parameters. Click “+” sign and add “L1” and “L2”, each with a value of 400. OK.

Create new datum plane from Front datum plane. The offset is L1. Say yes. OK.

Create another datum plane from DTM1, The offset is “L2”.

Create the sketch on front datum plane. Note that the bottom of the sketch is on top plane.

Create the sketch on DTM1 datum plane. Note that the bottom of the sketch is on top plane.

Create the sketch on DTM2 datum plane. Note that the center of the arc is the same for both arcs. Check.

Sketch a spline on the right datum plane. The spline passes three points on each sketch shown above. Check.

Highlight the spline and select Insert>Swept Blend

Select “Create a Solid”. Note the direction of sweep.

Select “Sections” and “Selected Sections” Click the sketch on the Front plane. Please note the yellow arrow. Insert.

Click the sketch on DTM1. Make sure the direction and starting point of the arrow of the sketch is matched each other. Click insert.

Click the sketch on DTM2 datum plane. Make sure the direction and starting point of the arrow of the sketch is matched each other. Click insert. Check.

Assignment week 9: Draw the part and print it as shown in the figure.
