Process C: Seagate Rosewood1D Firmware Upgrade Process for a platform with Intel Optane Memory

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware of the hard drive (HDD) A. Confirm that you need to upgrade your HDD Firmware (Check HDD model and Firmware version).

• If your HDD matches with the affected models - and - firmware version, please proceed with

Steps B to D.

• If your HDD does not match with the models - or - the firmware version - No further action is

needed.

B. Disable Intel Optane memory. C. Perform Seagate Rosewood HDD Firmware upgrade. D. Re-enable Intel Optane memory.

A. Confirm that you need to upgrade your Disk Drive (HDD) firmware (FW)

A1. Power up your computer and press F2 key immediately to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Select System Information in the menu.

A2. Select Hard Drive in the menu.

A3. Check and write down the Model of your HDD, and it’s Firmware Version.

A4. Press the ESC key to go to the main menu. A5. Select Exit to leave HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and launch Windows.

DECISION POINT: • If the HDD Model is either “ST500LM030-1R17D" or "ST1000LM035-1RK172” and the

Firmware Version = “RSM7”, proceed to Step B to update the HDD firmware.

• If the HDD Model is NOT “ST500LM030-1R17D" or "ST1000LM035-1RK172”, no further action is needed.

• If the HDD Firmware Version is NOT RSM7, no further action is needed.

B. Disable Optane memory.

B1. Look for “Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology” into Windows Search. Click on the application.

B2. Click Disable in the left column under Current Status.

B3. Click Yes to agree to disable Intel Optane memory.

Wait for Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology to disable Intel Optane Memory.

B4. Confirm that the Intel Optane Memory is disabled.

B5. Restart the computer to complete the disablement of Intel Optane Memory

B6. You have successfully disabled Intel Optane Memory. Proceed with Step C to upgrade the firmware.

C. Perform Seagate Rosewood1D HDD Firmware upgrade.

C1. Download SoftPaq SP91604 to the computer: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp91501-92000/sp91604.exe. IMPORTANT: Make sure you note where you download the file on your computer.

C2. Locate the SoftPaq file (SP91604.exe) on the computer, then double-click it to begin. C3. Click YES to “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”.

C4. Click Next.

C5. Check I accept the terms in the license agreement and, then click on Next.

C6. Check unpack the files used to…. , then click Next.

C7. Click Next to start the firmware update utility.

C8. Check I accept the terms of the License Agreement, then click Next.

C9. Check Begin firmware update procedure, then click Proceed.

C10. Click Next after the installation completes.

C11. Check Activate and Reboot, then click Next.

C12. After the restart, the HDD firmware update is complete Proceed with Step D to re-enable Intel Optane Memory.

D. Re-enable Intel Optane Memory.

D1. Look for Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology in Widows Search. Click on the application to begin.

D2. Click Enable in under Current Status.

D3. Click “Yes” to agree to enable Intel Optane memory.

D4. Confirm that the Intel Optane Memory is enabled.

D5. Restart the computer to complete the enablement of Intel Optane Memory.

D6. END OF THE PROCESS – No more action needed

NOTE: if you perform Step A again, in the “HARD DRIVE INFORMATION” you will observe that the Firmware Revision is now: RSM8.
