Project Presentation

Leap4FNSSA is a Coordination and Support Action(CSA) whose main objective is to bring togetherEuropean and African institutions to engage in aLong-Term Sustainable Partnership Platform forresearch and innovation on Food and NutritionSecurity and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA).

Under the aegis of the EU-AU High Level PolicyDialogue (HLPD), LEAP4FNSSA aims to achieve itsmain objective through:

• Increased synergies and coherence betweenactors, projects, initiatives and programmes,through the development of institutionalalliances and clusters of projects.

• An enhanced learning environment and largeknowledge base, including M&E, andestablished communication between relevantprogrammes and initiatives in order to improveEuropean- African cooperation.

• A firm institutional and financial sustainability ofthe Partnership, including co-fundingmechanisms.

The expected impact of LEAP4FNSSA is totransform the existing AU-EU FNSSA Partnershipinto a Bi-continental Platform for collaboration tooptimize the implementation of the AU-EURoadmap on FNSSA approved in 2016.

The project has a 4-years duration, fromNovember 2018 to October 2022.

Project Results

▪ A major contribution to the implementation of theAU-EU Roadmap on FNSSA by organizing efficientsupport to the HLPD Bureau.

▪ A Bi-continental Platform for collaborationbetween diverse actors dedicated to theimplementation of the AU-EU Roadmap on FNSSA,including a governance system and co-fundingmechanisms.

▪ Coherence, synergy and optimization of R&Iprojects and programmes in the FNSSA domain, inparticular through clustering.

Sustainability & Synergies

The EU-Africa partnership on FNSSA is fully in linewith the 2018 'Africa – Europe Alliance forSustainable Investment and Jobs' which calls forgreater investment in education and skills atcontinental and national level, to match skills andjobs, also including scholarships and exchange.

In this context, LEAP4FNSSA facilitates:

1. The active participation of many African andEuropean higher educations in the projectconsortium (RUFORUM & The Association ofCommonwealth Universities)

2. The openness of LEAP4FNSSA activities to allinstitutions of research and educationcommunities interested in our efforts to boostcooperation

3. The strengthening of African higher educationinstitutions’ collaborative capacities by joiningthe Bi-continental Platform.

Information

The activities belong to four different blocks:

1. Supporting the Bureau of the HLPD in implementingthe FNSSA Roadmap through a wide range ofactivities such as studies, reports, events etc. …;

2. Creating strategic alliances of actors committed toalign their R&I activities to the FNSSA Roadmap, andsetting up sustainable joint funding mechanisms;

3. Strengthening the knowledge base by developingnew instruments for data analysis and knowledgenetworks, and by enhancing capacities for datamanagement and communication;

4. Facilitating the dissemination of information alreadyexisting or generated by LEAP4FNSSA and thepartners.
