The Academy Business Challenge 2013
Presentation Techniques
Presentation Techniques
This is not all about the use of PowerPoint or
Keynote, it is also about how you carry yourself
as a group and or as an individual over the course of the next
fortnight
Presentation Techniques(The Format)
Ultimately, at the end of the fortnight, you are
required to host a 1hr presentation, under the following setup:
5mins setup time25mins presentation
15mins question and answer from judges10mins judges deliberations
5mins judges feedback
What is the intended purpose of the presentation?
• Identify the main purpose of the presentation.– What was the challenge that was set?– Have you understood the challenge from the
outset?– Have you reconfirmed this with your company
contact?
• Only report on those things that are related.– Your actual presentation will last only 25 mins– How will you plan this?– Will you rehearse?
Rehearsal
It is important that you rehearse the presentation at different stages of
your progress.
Ask your mentor, parents, business representative
to be your audience.
Professionalism
• Professionalism in terms of:– Dress code on the day you present
• Will this be professional business dress or branded company specific ie t-shirts with company logos
– Conduct throughout the fortnight– Use of appropriate business language
errrrm… innit… we went daan Dartford!– Team dynamics and team relationships
How will you decipher roles and responsibilities?
The PresentationUse appropriate visual aids
Using pictures in your presentations instead ofwords can double the chances of meeting yourobjectives.
Especially true when talking numbers or if you are asking the audience to visualise a place (a new dining area in a restaurant)
Presentation Techniques
• Over the next fortnight get to know your company and the problem.
• More importantly you should know about the work you have carried out.
• Your should know the in depth details of your solutions
• Therefore try not to use promt cards on the day.
Task
• In pairs, find out as much information about your partner without writing anything down.
• Try and find out at least 3 interesting facts about that person
• Feedback to the rest of the group without reading off a script in a professional manner.
And finally…
…how not to do it…
