BACKGROUND

Care in the Community

Care in the Community is when an elderly person is looked after in their own home rather than being in a hospital. There are a variety of services provided like carers, meals on wheels and the doctors may visit to deliver prescriptions.

FREE PERSONAL CARE Community Care and Health (Scotland) Act

2002

We are going to watch another clip. As you watch

take notes on what the above act did and why it is

important.

Although the idea of community care isadmirable there are a number of

problems:– Some owners of private medical care

concerned with profit rather than care.– Many elderly people remain in their home

and do not receive proper medical treatment.

Poorly trained people have been employed in some residential homes to save money.
