IKO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, FOUNTAIN HILLS HOA TREE AND SHRUB CARE PLAN
October 29th 2020
IKO Property Management | Fountain Hills HOA, Germantown, MD
Dear Delphine,
Thank you for allowing Bartlett Tree Experts the opportunity to provide you with the attached Tree and Shrub Care Plan. This plan is being provided to assist you in managing your plant health care needs in order to maintain a beautiful, vibrant and sustainable landscape on your property.
The first step in preparing this plan was for a qualified arborist to visit your property and conduct an inspection from the ground. The purpose of this inspection was to gain an understanding of the tree and shrub species on the property, the insect and disease populations, the cultural and environmental conditions, and any other factors that help us assess your trees and shrubs and provide professional recommendations for you to maintain a sound, healthy landscape. While this inspection is not a tree inventory, tree risk assessment or safety inspection, the arborist does identify any obvious safety concerns that are apparent at the time of the inspection so that you may better understand and address the risks associated with your trees and shrubs.
For your convenience, the plan is separated into three categories; immediate needs, intermediate recommendations, and future recommendations. Immediate needs (Phase 1) are tree and shrub issues that we feel require immediate attention. Often, these needs will consist of the pruning of dead limbs that overhang walkways, driveways, structures, or lawn areas, dead trees near structures, or some other need that if left unattended could create a dangerous or costly situation. Intermediate recommendations (Phase 2) are made for tree and shrub maintenance needs such as routine pruning, lightning protection systems, and cabling and bracing system requirements. Future recommendations (Phase 3) are often made for anticipated tree and shrub growth or to promote proper plant structure.
Specific soil or plant health care recommendations are made when issues are observed that could affect tree condition or growth. Finally, additional property considerations are included, that in combination with all the recommendations can help maintain a sustainable, beautiful landscape.
After you review this plan, please feel free to contact me to discuss any thoughts, questions, or concerns. Once we have been able to discuss the findings, a separate proposal can be provided for any recommended work that you would like to see implemented. Thank you again for this opportunity.
Best regards,
Josh Nadler

PLAN CONTENTS
The recommendations and additional property considerations, are summarized in the following sections.
For your convenience, a map has been provided to show the location of these trees and shrubs along with a corresponding identification number. Please note that this plan may not include all trees and shrubs on the property.
As tree or shrub condition is a key factor in the inspection, we have provided definitions for the condition classes that may be assigned to each plan or group of plants.
• GoodThe tree or shrub health and structural condition are acceptable. The tree or shrub mayhave minor issues that can easily be corrected or mitigated.
• FairThe tree or shrub may have structural issues that could be negatively impacting it at thistime and left unattended could cause tree or shrub decline. Parts of the tree canopy orshrub may be displaying undesirable foliage color, inappropriate foliage size, and/orinadequate new growth that could be caused by pest, disease, or soil related issues. Treesor shrubs in fair condition should be considered candidates for mitigation options toimprove health and structural condition.
6

The F. A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company Page 3
• PoorThe tree or shrub may have issues that are significantly impacting structural integrity andhealth and/or are severe enough that there may not be any mitigation that can beperformed to alleviate the issues. Parts of the tree canopy or shrub may be displayingsignificant branch dieback or have severe health issues due to damaging pests ordiseases. There may be limited mitigation options to improve health and structuralcondition for trees or shrubs in poor condition.
• DeadThe tree or shrub no longer has living tissue to sustain growth. Alternatively, the currentdecline is so severe the tree or shrub looks visually dead although there may be someliving tissue left; however, there are no mitigation options that would be able to improvehealth and condition to an acceptable level.
As you are reviewing this plan we welcome you to access additional information online at our website at https://www.bartlett.com/resourcelist.cfm, and see the many advantages and resources available to Bartlett clients through our resource library. You will also be able to find specific information on the types of recommendations made for your trees and shrubs.

PLANT HEALTH CARE RECOMMENDATIONS
These recommendations are made to treat for pests or diseases that could damage trees or shrubs and should be implemented as soon as feasible. Specific plant health care recommendations for your property are described in the following table:

These recommendations can be addressed upon completion of the intermediate recommendations.
ADDITIONAL PROPERTY CONSIDERATIONS
All properties are unique; however, there are general management practices that can help sustain the longevity and health of any landscape. While these additional property considerations are not prioritized, and not all possible considerations have been described, the following list can be used as a starting point:
• Integrated Pest Management ProgramIntegrated pest management visits are scheduled each year to inspect the trees andshrubs around the property for insects, mites, disease or cultural problems. During eachinspection, the Arborist will identify and treat insect and disease problems. Culturaltreatments such as soil pH adjustment, root collar inspections and mulch adjustments willbe included. The inspections can also identify other potential programs that the propertycould benefit from such as tick and deer management.
• MulchingWherever possible, apply 2-4 inches of mulch within the root zone, but not directly againstthe trunk, to help moderate soil temperatures, reduce soil moisture loss, reduce soilcompaction, provide nutrients, improve soil structure, and keep mowers and stringtrimmers away from tree trunks. The best mulch materials are wood chips, bark nuggets, composted leaves, or pine needles.
• Planting New TreesPlanting new trees is an important part of a sustainable landscape. When trees areremoved, the location, or other locations on the property can be evaluated for theopportunity to plant a new tree.
• Soil & Bulk Density SamplingSoil sampling, soil analysis, and bulk density sampling provide information on thepresence of soil nutrients, pH, organic matter, cation exchange capacity, and the amountof soil compaction.
• Vine RemovalVines should be removed from around the base of the trees and extend outward for atleast 1 foot when appropriate as they can hide defects that may be present.

LIMITATIONS OF THE PLAN
Please understand that trees and shrubs are biological organisms that are exposed to numerous conditions that can have a negative impact to health and structural safety, and that any tree or shrub's health or safety can change over time. These conditions include, but are not limited to; age, climate, wind, weather, drought, insect, disease, fungus, soil conditions, and animal and human activity. To help manage the effects of such conditions, Bartlett Tree Experts recommends that you have a qualified arborist inspect your trees periodically, or after any major weather event, in order to reassess tree conditions, and identify any safety concerns or other issues that may be present. It is also important for you to understand that all trees pose some degree of risk, and just because a tree was not listed as having immediate needs, intermediate recommendations, or future recommendations, the tree is "safe" or will not fail in any manner.
Recommendations that are made by Bartlett Tree Experts are intended to provide you with a better understanding of your existing landscape and help you make informed decisions about your trees and shrubs. Separate proposals can be provided for any recommendations that you would like to see implemented.
We look forward to working with you in the care of your trees and shrubs.
Sincerely, Josh Nadler
Bartlett Tree Experts
