The Industrial Revolution had given rise to even more competition between nations for military, political and economic power.

Africa, Latin America, the Arab World and Asia were under foreign influence.

New nations were becoming powerful militarily and economically-e.g. the US and Japan

The conditions for a major world war were set. It would only be a matter of time.
