Eight of the conflicts are in Africa:

Côte d’Ivoire Central African Republic Libya Mali Nigeria DRC South Sudan Burundi.

The number of refugees and internally displaced people is on the rise.

In 2014 alone, 13.9 million became newly displaced – four times the number in 2010.

Alarmingly, over half the world’s refugees are children.

This dramatic growth in numbers of refugees is being graphically demonstrated

by the number of African refugees undertaking perilous sea voyages.

Sub-Saharan Africa had 3.7 million refugees and 11.4 million internally displaced people, 4.5 million of whom were newly displaced in 2014.

Ethiopia replaced Kenya as the largest refugee-hosting country in Africa and the fifth largest worldwide.

Somalia (753,000) Sudan (627,000) South Sudan (615,300) DRC (487,800) CAR (410,400) Eritrea (239,600).

Sub-Saharan Africa was host to 3.7 million of all refugees (26%).
