As an archipelago country, thousands of islands are not
electrified yet
1 5 Provinces with the electrification ratio of less than 60 %,
in some area the duration of service are less than 12 hrs.
Generated power in the remote area mostly supplied by
diesel power, with an expensive transportation cost and
fuel supply security problem
PLN - high generation cost at the remote island
PLN plan to accelerate the RE target and reducing oil
consumption by ulilization of renewable energy
Trend of cost reduction and efficiency improvement on PV
technology

PLN Plan and Policy ( RUPTL 2010 -2019 ) :
• The growth of electricity demand by 9,2 % annually which
supplied by various energy resources
• Electrification ratio grows from 68 % in 2010 to be 91 % by 2019.
• The program to reduce oil consumption from 19 % to 3 % by
2015.
• With the dominant of coal power plant development (58 %), the
contribution of renewable energy will increase from 12 % ( 2010
) to be 19 % ( 2019 ).
• The utillisation of Solar has been planned in the RUPTL ( general
plan for electricity supply).

Criteria for PV Location Selection
Main Criteria• Remote area/remote island: transportation problem, security
of supply, costly oil price• Boundary area: social - political aspect• RE ratio of less than 35 % will be prioritized• Population distribution: population spread • Mini Hydro and Thermal resources are unavailable• Solar Radiation Level: Sufficient
Optional Criteria• Existing system: small diesel capacity (+/- 100 kW),
service hour of less than 24 hrs• Global issues (GHG, Saving Energy)

Design Configuration Option:
OFF GRID:
Off grid: Communal System (LV feeder, 230 V/ 400 V or MV line 20 kV, PV and Storage Bank /Battery, sevice hour :12 hr, load : 20 –50 kW)
ON GRID :
Hybrid System: Exist.Diesel+PV+Battery + Others ( connected to existing MV Line, service hour : 24 hours, load > 50 - 300 kW
Grid Connected: On grid System ( connected to existing MV line and without battery, service hour: 24 hours, load: > 300 kW )

Conclusion
CONCLUSION• As the electricity demand growing rapidly, PLN has
plan an additional capacity of 55.484 MW and
renewable energy share will increase from 12 % to 19
% with total capacity of 11.540 MW on the year of
2019.
• Considering the Indonesia potential on Solar, the
trend of cost reduction and efficiency improvement,
PLN has plan to develope 620 MW of Solar PV by
2020.
• The use of Solar Energy will be for supply in non-
electrified remote area and to replace the use of
Diesel Fuel [Fossil Fuel] in electrified Areas
