SUBJECT: Quarterly Progress Report
Dear Mr. Garcia:
In compliance with Philips Semiconductors' HSW A permit (NMD000709782-1 ), modified March 18, .!2??· t~ .l~eiftb~.f4~-~~~!x,,R~W"ess report as required The following progress has been made between ept er an'd:December 13, 1996.
• D.l (a) -A description of the work completed and an estimate of the percentage of work completed: Quarterly groundwater monitoring was completed on October 21 and 22 for this period Philips met with the City of Albuquerque (Doug Earp) to discuss their participation in RFI field activities associated with installing additional monitoring wells within and surrounding the former Coronado Municipal Landfill. The City has begun installation of the wells and has completed three of the four planned wells.
D. I (b) - Summaries of all findings, including summaries of laboratory data: A quarterly groundwater monitoring report (P AI; December 9, 1996) is included with this report for your files. This groundwater report includes analytical results for Appendix IX constituents for Philips' monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4. The constituents found in the groundwater for this effort were barium, chromium, lead, zinc, dichlorodifluoromethane, bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, and perchloroethylene. Chloromethane, which was detected during the last sampling period, was not detected this quarter. New compounds detected were zinc, lead, and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, a common laboratory contaminant. Copies of the third and fourth quarter analytical results reports are included with this letter.
D. I (c) - Summaries of all problems or potential problems encountered during the reporting period and actions taken to rectifY problems: No problems to report.
• D. I (d) -Projected work for the next reporting period: Quarterly groundwater monitoring will continue and groundwater samples will be obtained from wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, andMW-4 in January 1997. Preliminary samples of the new City wells (ABQ-2, ABQ-3, and ABQ-4) will be taken. A tour of the Facility has been scheduled with NMED fbr 12/17/96. NMED will be reviewing the draft RFI Workplan. Philips will address all NMED comments on the draft RFI Workplan when comments are received

New Mexico Environment Department: Mr. Carl Will informed Melanie McKinley that he is the new permit contact at NMED replacing Stephanie Kruse and that the NMED Facility Manager will be Susan Hoise. Ms. Hoise will be copied on all relevant correspondence. Also, a Facility tour was set for 12/17/96.
D. I(/) - Changes in key project personnel during the reporting period: No Philips changes made.
D. I (g) - Summaries of all changes made in implementation during the reporting period: No changes made.

Environmental Services
This report presents the analytical results as well as sL 1pporting information to aid in the evaluation and interpretation of the data and is arranged in the fo 11 owing order:
o Sample Description Information o Analytical Test Requests o Analytical Results
Sample arrival and receipt:
The trip blanks. listed on chain of custody forms 69610 and 69611. did not originate from Quanterra.
All analyses at Quanterra are performed so that the maximum concentration of sample consistent with the method is analyzea Dilutions are at times r'equ11'ed to avoid saturation of the detector. to achieve linearity for a specific target compound. or to reduce matrix interferences. In this event. reporting limits are adjusted proportionately. Surrogate compounds may not be measurable in samples which have been diluted.
There were no reportable anomalies associated with the analyses by Method 524.2 .
The MS-QC (batch MS/MSD) RPO Acceptance Limits were exceeded for acenaphthene and pyrene.
There were no reportable anomalies associated with the analyses by Method BOBO.

Sample Description Information
The Sample Description Information lists all of the samples received in this pmject together with the internal laboratory identification number assigned for each sample. Each project received at Quanterra is assigned a unique six digit number. Samples within the project are numbered sequentially. The laboratory identification number is a combination of the six digit project code and the sample sequence number.
Also given in the Sample Description Information is the Sample Type (matrix). Date of Sampling (if known) and Date of Receipt at the laboratory.
Analytical Test Requests
The Analytical Test Requests lists the analyses that were performed on each sample. The Custom Test column indicates where tests have been modified to conform to the specific requirements of this project.

The analytical results for this project are presented in the following data tables. Each data table includes sample identification information. and when avcilable and appropriate. dates sampled. received. authorized. prepared and analyzed. The authorization date is the date when the project was defined by the client such that laboratory work could begin.
D~t~ sneets contain a 11st1ng of tne parameters measured in each test. the analytical results and the Quanterra reporting limit. Reporting limits are aajus~eo to reflect dilution of the sample. when appropriate. Solid and waste samples are reported on an "as received'' basis. i.e. no correction is made for moisture content.
The results from the Standard Quanterra QA/QC Program. which generates data which are independent of matrix effects. are provided subsequently.
