Celebrating Emmanuel

Philippians 2:5-8Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man,

he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

We cannot rise to God’s level.

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?Who may stand in his holy place?

4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,who does not lift up his soul to an idol

or swear by what is false. Psalm 24:3-4

Emmanuel: God Stooping Down

• God is personable.

• Jesus is the ultimate Emmanuel.

“he has spoken to us by his Son. . . The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.”

Accepting Emmanuel

• Christmas is empty without Emmanuel

• God with us must become God with you.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,

I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20

Emmanuel Living

• It begins with a servant’s attitude.

• Nothing is more counter-cultural.

“In humility consider others better than yourselves.”Philippians 2:3

Emmanuel Living

• It begins with a servant’s attitude.

• Emmanuel is proactive.

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4

Celebrate and live Emmanuel love.
