Creating Classroom Management Online

Universal Design for Learning

● Multiple means of representation● Multiple means of action/expression● Multiple means of engagement

Multiple Means of RepresentationMultiple means of representation affects the recognition network of

the brain, so students are able to learn the info in the way they learn best.

- Teachers present in different ways for alternate means of representation

- Teachers could lecture with visuals- Students can be actively involved during the discussion (Vimeo,

screencasting)- Provide checks for understanding and comprehension of information- Use a flipped classroom approach to teaching and learning

Multiple Means of Action/ ExpressionJust as learners are different, so are means of expression. Multiple

means affect the strategic network of the brain. It is the “how” of learning.

- Teachers can have the same rubric, but allow for student choice on how they present - diorama, infographics, slideshows, reports, QR codes, Minecraft

- Broaden the ideas of writing - journals, online, etc.- Create opportunities for planning and organizing- Have students learn about their strengths, weaknesses; learning

profiles can help them identify their styles

Multiple Means of EngagementMultiple means of engagement involves the affective network,

engaging students in the “why” or “who cares” of learning.

- Take prior experience and activate students’ background knowledge.

- Change up how you use transitions- Allow for student voice and choice- Allow for a variety of formats to be presented, including interactive,

comments, Google Drive, etc. - Teach new tools with mastered tasks and new tasks with mastered

tools
