PERFECT CITY FOR VISUALLY
IMPAIRED PERSON
A FEW WORDS…
• Main groups of problems visually impaired person:
• infrustructure• public communication • activities of daily living • accessibility of art, culture, education
and information• human ignorance
INFRASTRUCTURE Huge problem is uneven and broken pavement that can cause
problems with move with a white cane. • The next one is don’t marked (yellow tape and non slip
floors )first step of stairways, what really make walk down the stairs for people with visual problem hard and difficult.
The solutions in perfect city are: • Lower thresholds,• Non slip floors,• Assembly of handrails and grips,• Lowering the curbs and differentiating the texture on zebra
crossings and bus stops and platforms
…EXAMPLES
PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONIn city from my dream the public transport are fully adapted for blind
and visually impaired person. For example:• Voice information in means of transport (with additional
information about changes, numbers of the buses leaving given bus stop)
• Buses and trams which are talking their number and rout, when they are stopping on the bus stops.
• Bigger timetable on the bus stops and kind of automat which is talking about departure times.
…EXAMPLES
ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING
Every day visually impaired person have problems with activities of daily living. In my vision of city- this is solved. by:
• Application of colors and texture to improve orientation, • Change of lighting and additional lighting in the rooms, • Leveling of the surface, • Assembly of sound signals on zebra crossings• assistances in shops, who can help • restaurants, cafes with menu wrote in Braille and large font• Cash machine with voice system • Toleration for companion dogs
EXAMPLES
ACESSIBILITY OF ART, CULTURE, EDUCATION AND INFORMATION
• Solutions in “my perfect city” are• Cinemas, which have all of the movies with
audiodescription • museums where are a lot of models to touch, descriptions
of props are written in Braill and large font, where is possibility to go very near for example paint ( without barriers)
• Teachers and in general society are aware and knows about problems visual impaired person
• Child with visions problem can learn without stress (schools are adjusted and have necessary equipment
EXAMPLES
THE MOST IMPORTANT (?)
• That’s all, what did I say, in my opinion is very important, but in my vision of perfect city for visually impaired person, the most important aspect are people, who are tolerant, enlightened, helpful and friendly because sometimes even the best equipment and technology can’t be substitute for a helpful man.
