Local Arts Index & Economic Impact Study Research: early results 2011

Arts & Economic Prosperity III

Arts & Cultural Organizations produce $279 million in economic impact for KC metro region.

- 2004 Arts & Economic Prosperity Study

Nonprofit arts organizations spent a total of $193.7 million in 2004.

• Paying employees• Purchasing supplies• Contract for services

The 4.4 million attendees spent a total of $85.6 million- just under $20 per person, per event NOT including the cost of admission or souvenirs and gifts.

• Transportation• Lodging• Meals/Refreshments

• Arts and Culture Non-profit Organizations: Over 253 (in 2004 we surveyed 165)

• Individual artists: Over 6,000 in 2000 Census• The Arts Council has been tracking 17 arts groups for the

last five years. Their aggregate budgets increased by 11.7% in 2007, 5% in 2008, dropped 3.3% in 2009, then increased 0.7% in 2010, for a total increase of 14.2% from 2006 through 2010. During the same five year period, the KC regional economy grew by an estimated 4.2% while the overall US economy grew by 0.2%.(all figures adjusted for inflation)
