This Sunday’s Meeting Program
Our speaker will
be Ofer Cohen,
astrologer, tarot
card reader, and
healer. Ofer is a
guest columnist
for the famous
celeb magazine
’’HELLO ’’ and is currently involved in
production of a spiritual film which is
dedicated to a mission of awakening &
enlightening people all over the world. He will
be speaking about his upcoming book that can
help people heal themselves called
Enlightenment.
Enlightenment is a state of mind, for
some who are suffering it will enhance
the process of becoming enlightened ,
for others it is a natural inner wisdom
which awakes , knowing you are light
will heal you, experiencing it will
enlighten you’’’ . Ofer Cohen
Ofer will be answering questions and most
importantly providing some guidance on
achieving the state of enlightenment. His
teachings are not about learning a new method
or laws; it is based on the process of
understanding our existence. He believes that
once you know who you truly are you are
already deep into the process of enlightenment.
Ofer was born into a family known in Cabala &
mysticism for decades. His grandfather was an
expert in the secrets of Cabala, match-making,
herbs & their recipes. At the age of 16, Ofer
discovered his abilities to predict events
without any tools such as astral-charts, tarots
cards, etc. He realized that he was accurately
face-reading people. At the age of 22 he started
practicing Tarot, astrology & palmistry, herbal
medicine. By the time he was 27 he was an
expert. Ofer is known for reading the astral-
chart & tarot cards in a completely different
way than the common astrologers and psychics
of the west. In the late 1990’s he hosted several
Radio & Television programs and made
accurate predictions about famous footballers
and other celebrities.
In the mid 90’s, he studied Buddhism & tantric
Vedas. In 1999 he left home for further studies
in India. He spent his initial 3 years in the
mountains of the Himalayas. In 2003 he
decided to settle in the city of Mumbai. In the
past few years he has traveled between
Bangkok, London, and Mumbai; employed
by a hotel company to give tarot readings,
lectures, and workshops.
For more information about him, visit his website at
http://www.ofercohen.info/
We will have the usual announcements of
upcoming events in and around Pattaya,
updates on club activities, and last, but not the
least, there will be an Open Forum, which is the
time for you to ask questions about living in
Thailand, or Pattaya. We ask you to offer your
own observations and suggestions on how to
live better in Pattaya. Your humorous stories
(jokes) are welcome, but remember you are in
mixed company. Whether you are a new Expat,
just visiting on holiday, or consider yourself an
"old hand" at being an Expat in Thailand, you
will find the Open Forum has humor and
helpful information to offer.

PATTAYA CITY EXPATS CLUB NEWSLETTER September 28, 2012
CPR AND FIRST AID TRAINING IS PLANNED FOR NOVEMBER – SIGN UP IF YOU
ARE INTERESTED – There are 10 people who have signed up for a CPR and First Aid Training
class at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya or the Markland Meeting Room. Since BHP charges a fee of
20,000 Baht for classes of up to 30 people, the cost for 10 people would be 2,000 Baht making this
option too costly. The second option was to find an instructor and a location for the class.
Fortunately, Siamrad Maher (Si), a Medic during his 20 years in the US Marine Corps, has
volunteered to give the class which can be held in the Markland Meeting Room. Because of Si and
the organizer’s travel plans, it is anticipated it will take place in November. The anticipated cost per
person should be nominal; around 100 to 200 Baht to cover the cost of the room and some equipment
that will be needed. Since Si is Thai, he can supplement the English instruction with Thai so the class
will be available and beneficial to Thai companions or friends of those in the class. When the class
date is set, the organizers will include the information in the Newsletter, on the website, and in an
email to all those who have signed up. If you have any questions or wish to participate in the class,
please contact Richard Smith at 089-244-9523 or by email at rick2mail@gmail.com.
YOU CAN HELP AVOID THE YEAR END MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL CRUNCH – As
many of you are aware, most membership cards expire on December 31st. This creates a large crunch
at year end for Judith to take care of all those renewals. This year, in order to print membership
cards, Judith needs your photograph in digital format so that it can be included in the new database,
which allows the photo to be printed on the new membership card (passport style showing head and
shoulders). This only needs to be done once as the digital photo will be on file in the database and
can be used with future renewals. Stuart Saunders has agreed to take digital photos at the Sunday
meetings – so, no need to wait – have him do it any Sunday between now and renewal time – the
sooner the better. If you do not expect to be at a Sunday meeting before renewal time, you can email
your photo to Judith by attaching it to a file addressed to membership@pattayacityexpatsclub.com –
just be sure it is in .jpg file format so it can be used with the new database.
BANGLAMUNG DISTRICT CROSS CULTURAL VOLUNTEER GROUP UPDATE – The
Pattaya City Education Department has asked for a second 10 week session of conversational English
for their staff and several additional teachers. Although the planned date to resume the classes was
in August, the start date has been delayed several times due to the Department's workload. Khun
Ju, the Department's Education Supervisor, has advised that they are still working through the
budgetary process, and will not be able to resume the classes until late October .Please contact
Richard Smith at 089-244-9523 or by email at rick2mail@gmail.com for more information or to be
included on the Group's mailing list..
WE ARE ALWAYS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR INTERESTING SPEAKERS – The Club’s
Program Committee endeavors to obtain interesting speakers for the Club’s Sunday meetings. This
can sometimes be a daunting task as we have 52 meetings a year. If you know of someone with an
interesting topic, please let us know along with how to contact them. If you don’t know a particular
speaker, but have a topic you think will be interesting, then pass it on; we will then try to find a
knowledgeable speaker for the topic. To make suggestions for speakers or topics, please email
speakers@pattayacityexpatsclub.com.

PATTAYA CITY EXPATS CLUB NEWSLETTER September 28, 2012
Last Week’s Meeting
“Trust me . . .” a term often heard was Ren
Laxander’s topic at last Sunday’s meeting, which
he based on the book he is just finishing entitled
“The book you need to read before you trust
anyone ever again.” Master of Ceremonies
Richard Silverberg introduced Ren who is
originally from Australia. He previously spoke to
the Club last April on the subject of The Rest of
Our Lives, which was about the probabilities and
the possibilities that face us as we enter the last
half/third/quarter of our lives.
Ren pointed out that if you yourself are honest
and competent then your biggest disasters in life
are most likely to come from broken trust;
speaking in part from his own personal
experience when he entered into a business
venture with another individual about 8 years
ago in Australia. He said that he would be
identifying the eight types trust-breakers and
how to spot them along with some clues for
spotting liars and some simple things you can do
to encourage trustworthiness.
Ren said that breaking their trust is usually not
something planned by most trust breakers, but
usually happens later after the “deal” is done.
He then named and described the eight types of
trust breakers as the deluded salesman, de-
prioritizer, incompetent, idiot, wimp, over-
stepper, poor judge, and the con man or woman.
He provided examples for each type such as the
deluded sales person usually thinks they are
being truthful, but in many cases they may be
misinformed, under-informed, or mistaken. He
noted that a de-prioritizer is someone who at the
time of the deal promises to give priority to your
interests, but after the deal is done tends to forget
their promises and starts to give priority to other
things. Ren considers someone who espouses a
particular theory or set of facts to you and
continues to stand by them even after being
shown irrefutable proof that they are wrong to be
an idiot. Ren cited the American economist Alan
Greenspan as a good example – he continued to
believe that the financial markets could be self
regulated even after events showed that was not
the case. Ren spent more time describing the
over-stepper because this is someone that often
with the best of intentions, oversteps the
boundaries they should observe. One example he
used is a mine cave in where one or more
rescuers disregard safety protocols in the interest
of speeding up the rescue. While their intentions
are good, they are placing themselves and others
in danger by their actions.
The last type Ren discussed was the con-man or
woman. Their intent is to deceive you for their
own benefit. He noted that they often tell small
lies which you may decide to let slide by.
However, when they are telling these small lies,
they are actually practicing for the big ones. Ren
then described several “signs” such as body
language you can look for to identify if they are
being untruthful. Ren then called on his 3
previously selected volunteers to stand up and
say whether they were in possession of a pair of
nail clippers which he had given to them
previously. The audience, knowing that only one
of the three could be in possession of the item,
was asked to observe and guess which two were
the liars. Ren concluded by mentioning some
things you can do to encourage trustworthiness
and then answered several questions from the
audience.
MC Richard then invited Mike Pence (playing
Doctor Short) and Bob Smith (playing Sergeant
Plod) in the upcoming Pattaya Player’s
production of “Inspector Drake and the Perfeckt
Crime” to perform a brief skit from the Play as
an encouragement for the Club members and
guests to support Pattaya’s own amateur theatre
group by attending one of the two upcoming
performances. MC Richard then updated
everyone on upcoming events and called on Roy
Albiston to conduct the informative and
sometimes humorous Open Forum.
