Being God’s People in God’s World – Sustained and Serving by Faith
Almighty God, so often we fail to do the good we want to do, and do that which we should not. Strengthen us that we may resist temptation and forgive us when we fall, secure in the presence of Christ to encourage and uphold us. Lord, in peace and security, trial and testing, we seek your guiding presence, but it is your way of love that is balm for our souls. In times of temptation, Lord, deliver us from evil. Amen

CALL TO WORSHIP
HYMN OF PRAISE – NO. 1 - A mighty Fortress is our God
1. A mighty fortress is our God 3. And tho’ this world, with devils filled,
A bulwark never failing Should threaten to undo us.
Our helper He, amid the flood, We will not fear, For God hath willed
of mortal ills prevailing; His truth to triumph through us; For still our ancient foe, The Prince of Darkness grim
doth seek to work us woe We tremble not for him;
His craft and power are great, His rage we can endure And, armed with cruel hate, For lo, his doom is sure,
On earth is not his equal. One little word shall fell him.
2. Did we in our own strength confide 4. That word above all earthly powers,
Our striving would be losing; No thanks to them, abideth; Were not the right Man on our side, The Spirit and the gifts are ours
The Man of God’s own choosing; Thro’ Him who with us sideth;
Dost ask who that may be? Let goods and kindred go, Christ Jesus, it is He; This mortal life also;
Lord Sabaoth, his name, The body they may ;kill;
From age to age the same, God’s truth abideth still, And He must win the battle. His kingdom is forever.
[Martin Luther: ] PRAYER OF ADORATION AND THANKSGIVING
RESPONSIVE READING - No. 659 –
Leader: The Lord is my shepherd,
People: therefore can I lack nothing.
Leader: He will make me lie down in green pastures
People: and lead me beside still waters
Leader: He will refresh my soul
People: and guide me in right pathways for his name’s sake.
Leader: Though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
People: for you are with me, your rod and your staff comfort me.
Leader: You spread a table before me
in the face of those who trouble me;
People: you have anointed my head with oil,
and my cup will be full.
Leader: Surely your goodness and loving-kindness
will follow me all the days of my life,
ALL: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
SONGS OF WORSHIP
1. Majesty, worship his majesty
Unto Jesus be glory, honour and praise
Majesty, kingdom, authority, flow from his throne
Unto his own, his anthem raise.
So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the King
Majesty, worship his majesty
Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all kings.
2. Above all powers, above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began
Above all kingdoms, above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what You're worth
CHORUS: Crucified, laid behind a stone
You lived to die, rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground You took the fall and thought of me, above all
3. I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship You
O my soul, rejoice.
Take joy my King, in what You hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear.
[BRIEF PERIOD OF SILENCE]
[Sung prayerfully] - They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength
They shall mount up with wings as eagles
They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint
Teach me Lord, teach me Lord, to wait.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND INTERCESSION [Sung prayerfully] Change my heart, O God, make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like You.
You are the Potter, I am the clay;
Mold me and make me, this is what I pray.
Change my heart, O God, make it ever true
Change my heart, O God, may I be like You.

HYMN OF MEDITATION: NO. 2 - Lord, who throughout these forty days
1. Lord, who throughout these forty days 3. And through these days of penitence for us did fast and pray and through your passiontide, teach us, O Christ, to mourn our sins for ever-more, in life and death, and close by you to stay. O Christ, with us abide. 2. As you with Satan did contend, 4. Abide with us, that through this life and did the victory win, of doubts, and hope and pain, O give us strength in You to fight, an Easter of unending joy in You to conquer sin. we may at last attain! MESSAGE - Deacon Lorence Brown
HYMN OF RESPONSE I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold
1. I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands;
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand
Refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain
Or be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.
2.I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause;
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame;
I’d rather be true to His holy name
3. He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs;
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead
