Past Student Evaluation – Lew Parker

• Lewis has put all four of his questions within a prezi. I think this is a really good way of organising his evaluations and collecting them into one. But because one of my posts will be an interactive blog post, I will be doing them all as separate posts instead of just the one.

Question One

Question 1: Style• Question one is done in the style of a vlog.

He’s very clear and there’s not much going on around him.

• Throughout the vlog he uses pictures and clips which make it interesting to watch. They all assist with what he’s saying and is used to emphasise a point or as evidence. Personally I would make the pictures larger or make them cover the screen as they’re a bit small.

• He's used a script for this video which makes the video flow really well and allows him to cover all of the most important parts without forgetting anything.

Question 1: Content• Lewis starts with a clear introduction which I think

really helps the rest of the video. • He starts off answering the question by telling us

what he's researched and what he learnt from this. He says how it helped him create his three products.

• He talks about the main codes and conventions of music videos for various genres and how audiences respond to these. He also explores the types of music video (performance, narrative and concept). Lewis goes into much more detail than the other genres.

Question 1: Content• After doing this, he then focuses on the genre that

applies to his music video and the band.• He talks about the codes and conventions he has

present in his music video and the type of music video it is. He also talks about reasons why he did certain things.

• He discusses the research he did into the band he chose itself and what he tried to recreate and the inspiration he got from the band’s existing style.

Question 1: Content• He goes on about what conventions he abides to

and what ones he challenges, covering things such as locations and editing.

• He also talks about Goodwin’s theories in a lot of detail, talking about each of the seven and how he’s challenged or used them and the reason why.

Question 1: Content• He finally talks about his auxiliary tasks and why he

picked to do the website and a poster.• He shows the research he’s done for each and the

codes and conventions of each task.• He goes through both of his tasks, explaining

reasons behind choosing various features. • And like the music video, he talks about how it

would be received by an audience.

Question 1: Content• He covers a lot with the right amount of detail, only

going into depth about certain parts instead of an entire thing, such as a music video.

• What’s stands out for me is that he shows he has a clear understanding of the question and all of the research he’s done. And uses a great range of vocabulary.

Question Two

Question 2: Style• Done in the style of a PowerPoint but on prezi,

something I had not thought of before.• Some of the text is difficult to read if you don’t

zoom on it.• It’s clearly set out and I love the use of pictures.• Each ‘slide’ has an appropriate heading.

Question 2: Content• He starts with an introductory paragraph that is

very effective. He uses key terms like “brand” and “synergy”.

• He gets right down to the question and talks about the relationship between the three medias

Question 2: Content• He gives examples of branding, showing some

research he’s done. He then talks about the importance of branding whilst demonstrating his understanding and knowledge of the subject gained from his research. He mentions and explains the four key stages to branding.

• He then moves onto talking about his own products and applies each of the four stages to them and applies his research to his work. He mentions the same research as he did in question one.

Question 2: Content• He uses pictures of his own work to demonstrate

how he’s applied his findings.• The key words such as “identity”, “360-degree

branding”, “typography”, “representation”, “pull/push marketing” and “public face”.

• These are all things I’d like to explore and explain in my own evaluation.

Question 2: Content• The next slide is about house style, a subject I’ve

covered in other subjects before. I’ve also mentioned it in various posts so it’s probably a good thing if I mention it in my own work.

• Lewis explains what it is and the importance of it really well.

• In the next slide, about synergy, he’s included a screenshot of his work and how he planned to use it in his own work. Having shots of his work is really useful and a good feature I’d like to include in my own evaluation.

Question 2: Content• After showing how he planned to use synergy, he

then showed how it was used in real examples. One of the examples he’s used oasis, a band that was mentioned a lot in the previous question as it’s linked to his chosen band.

• Again he talks about the research he’s done into synergy and what he’s noticed. This includes features and conventions that he noted contributes towards synergy.

Question 2: Content• The next slide is about how his actual products

actually used synergy.• He starts talking about his music video and that it

was the basis to start developing the synergy and then applying it to the ancillary tasks.

• Here he hilights the band’s logo. This is probably the biggest thing.

• He also talks about how he got it to look more like a “real life” production by adding the MTV logo in the top.

Question 2: Content• He then talks about the poster and website in detail

and how he created synergy in both products. • He says where he got the content from, and what

other product uses them. • These all include logos, information, pictures,

layout, schemes, colours and the use of adding the products to each other.

• He also talks about the research that went into each page of his website. In particular the merchandise.

Question 2: Content• His final point is about effectively establishing a

brand.• He talks about how well he has done in doing so.• It’s a really good final slide to round off with.

Question Three

Question 3: Style• In the style of glogster, and with pictures and

additional text in the prezi. • I love his use of media and how there’s videos

demonstrating making it more interesting to watch. • I feel the arrows are really effective and help you

follow through the glog.

Question 3: Content• He begins with talking about the initial audience

research he did through a questionnaire. He says why he did it and how it helped him.

• The way he’s presented the questionnaire results are very interesting. I like how he goes through a powerpoint and presents the results as a graph and how he’s used a video of someone watching the video.

• What I like is that he shows the before and after receiving feedback and how the feedback has helped him.

• I also like how he talks about what he would do differently if he was to do this again

Question Four

Question 4: Content• Lewis goes through a variety of technologies including:

Blogger, Broadband, Mobile internet, iMacs, Facbook, twitter, vimeo, YouTube, Survey Monkey, his preliminary task, the camera he chose, imovie, final cut, live type, photoshop, quicktime, powerpoint, glogster and gmail.

• He explains what he learnt from each and how it helped him in his project. He goes into a lot of detail, talking about the features of the various technologies and using a lot of pictures and screen shots to demonstrate what he’s talking about.

• He also talks about how he used tech he used in his evaluations.
