Hispanic students are significantly overrepresented in the Basic Skills population (40%) compared to their population in the overall credit population (32%)

White Non-Hispanic students are underrepresented in the basic skills population (12%) compared to their proportion in the overall credit population (18%).

In Fall 2007, 84% of 5,596 new students took a placement exam in math and either English or ESL to determine their skill level and the courses for which they were prepared. Of the 4,691 students who took at least one test, 2,845 (60.1%) placed into basic skills-level English; 1,252 ( 26.7%) placed into basic skills-level math; and 502 (10.7%) placed into basic skills-level ESL.
