Christ’s Deity, Religious Hypocrisy & Sacrificial

GivingApril 19, 2015

Jesus On The Offensive Jesus now asks the Scribes a

question. Jesus’ Question: Why do the Scribes

say that the Messiah is the son of David?

Jesus then quotes from Psalm 110.

The Spiritual Truth of Christ’s Deity

The Christ can be both the son of David and the Lord of David only through the Incarnation.

Our ApplicationWe must see the future of the world through spiritual salvation

not through political reformation.

Religious Hypocrisy Jesus strongly warned the

people of the hypocrisy of the Scribes.

Five Evidences of Scribal Religious Hypocrisy

1) They intentionally displayed only external holiness.

2) They demanded the honor and praise of the people.

3) They desired social prominence and special status.

Five Evidences of Scribal Religious Hypocrisy

4) They were driven by corrupt insatiable greed.

5) They displayed public prideful hypocritical religion.

Religious Hypocrisy Jesus proclaimed greater

condemnation on the scribes for their blatant hypocrisy.

Our ApplicationThe Lord detests external religious hypocrisy while the

world accepts and embraces it.

The Widow in the Temple Jesus watched the people putting

money into the offering box. A poor widow came and put in

less than one cent. Jesus called his disciples and told

them that the widow put more money in the treasury than everyone else.

The Widow in the Temple Jesus explained his rationale:

The others gave from their abundance but she gave out of her poverty.

A Principle of Giving to Remember

Jesus still watches the treasury of the church.

Principles of Sacrificial Giving

1) Sacrificial giving is not determined by the amount of the gift.

2) Sacrificial giving is not limited by your social status.

Principles of Sacrificial Giving

3) Sacrificial giving is not measured by how much you give…but by how much you keep.

4) True biblical sacrificial giving is supernatural it is not willed.
