HISTORY

• Panvel was a well-known centre of trade and commerce in the ancient time.

• The port of Panvel was known to have been used for carrying on such trade since before the 16th century.

• Today the port is seen to be used mostly by small country crafts for small coastal traffic and for fishing.

• The town of Panvel remained a small-scale urban centre for large rural area.

• The city is the headquarters of the Panvel sub-division of Raigad district, which is the largest in the district as per number of villages (564) and also Panvel taluka which has 177 villages under it.

• The development authority of Panvel is the Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) and that of New Panvel is City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).

PMC is cleaning and repairing the city before monsoon

Panvel municipal council is going a step ahead to clean and repairing the city, as the monsoon season is on the door step.

When developments named Panvel as the future city, damage in human resource management compelled more people to chose home in slums.

Slums are mushrooming in various open spaces and public areas due limited space in current areas. Area under and near to New bridge witnessed a rapid increase in slums. Unhygienic living conditions and solid waste disposal in important roads have disturbed the developments in the city.Primarily slums are result of increasing population and their incapability to find the source of money according to price rise in the city.
