COURSECAST

What is CourseCast?

CourseCast is a complete client/server solution allowing users to quickly and effectively capture presentations, courses and meetings.  CourseCast includes the CourseCast Recorder, CourseCast Editor and CourseCast Server.

CourseCast Advantages

• Integrates 2 video sources & audio

• Indexes video by PowerPoint slide

• Easily provides streamed video end-user needs only a browser & internet connection

• Easy interface for recording

CourseCast Disadvantages

• Stream file only, no master file

• Limited editing capabilities

• Editing interface is not intuitive

• Second video source is 12 fps

CourseCast: The Socrates Project

Panopto offers CourseCast's core components free to accredited educational institutions through the Socrates Project. CourseCast's core components include classroom and desktop lecture capture, web streaming, indexing (via PowerPoint and student notes), search (at the course and individual session level), web-based editing and archiving.

Panopto provides:• Server, recorder and editing software• Limited free support• Updates, once they have been released for

12 months

Additional support and upgrades are available (e.g. installation support, administrator training, 5 support incidents and upgrades for $3,500/year)

Challenge: Create self-paced, online version of "Extension Evaluation: The Four Levels" workshop, previously delivered face-to-face

Plan: Use a combination of documents, quizzes, presentations and archived, streamed video lectures

Limitations:     Time - six-week turnaround    Money - limited funds available for                 video production

CourseCast: Example Project

Results: Audio and video of instructor combined with

PowerPoint presentations and screen capture to create archived, streamed lectures using CourseCast

CourseCast lectures combined with documents and quizzes in Moodle course
