1. There are many examples of good-performing utilities in Asia, be it public or private

2. Many good-performing public utilities go about doing their job quietly and efficiently

- Vietnam (Haiphong, Hue)

- Philippines (water districts outside Manila)

- Hong Kong (HK Water Supply Dept)

- Taiwan (Taipei Water Dept, Taiwan Water Corporation)

3. Private operators carry with them higher profiles, but many have led to improved service deliveries to the areas they serve

- Philippines (Manila Water, Maynilad)

- Malaysia (Ranhill, Puncak Niaga, IWK)

- Macao (Macao Water)

4. Key is to understand what are the factors for success or failures, and adapt and tailor to every unique local conditions

- personal leadership

- role of government (federal, state, municipal)

- communications

- pricing and cost recovery

- many others….

5. To allow water utilities to help each other, Water Operators Partnerships have taken off in a big way in Asia
