Shape, Form, Type

8” to 15” tall.8”to 12” wide.Commonly has 5 leaves.Perrineal.

Bark

Greenish brown stem.Makes up most of the height of the tree.

Brown twig coming off of the main stem.

Leaf

Long stalked, compound leaves.Horse-Nut shaped leaves.Usually 5 finely toothed leaflets on each leaf. Leaflets about 5” long.

One bud per twig.Five leaflets grow out of the one bud.Green in color and small.

FlowerA small group of yellow, white, or green flowers.Bloom in late spring or early summer.Bloom in the center of the main leaf.Slightly aromatic but not very visually appealing.

From each cluster of flowers grows red berries.

Habitat and Range

Grows from Eastern to Midwest United States. From Texas up to parts of the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario.
