PACHAMAMA

WHERE?

Pachamama and Inti –Inca´s sun god- are worshiped in parts of the Andes mountains ranges, in the northern of Argentina (Salta and Tucumán).

WHY?

The ritual or festivity of the Mother Earth occurs because the Pachamama awakes thirsty and hungry after the summer and the tributes seek quench in return of favors.

WHEN?

The Pachamama´s Party is celebrated in Salta on August 1°. In Amaicha Del Valle, in Tucumán, the festival is from February seven until February twelve. The celebration lasts one week.

ACTIVITIES:

Saturday To mark young goat Taming and lasso Dances and songs in the “enramada”Sunday Mass in the church Offering in the “Apacheta” Presentation of the “pachamama”, “ yastay”

(father of the animals), Pujllay (the devil) and the Ñusta (child of representation the fruit of the earth). With the company of “gauchos”

Parade of carriage and “gauchos” Marriage “criollo” whit dance under the tree. Traditional music and dances.

Empanadas. Locro. Legumbres. Tamales. Coca leaf. Tijtincha. Alfeñiques. Beverage.

CLOTHES

People tide black and white threads in ankles, wrists and neck so that La Pachamama doesn´t punish them.

They wear clothes very colorful with feathers

They usually wear capes
