– Typically no way to size in depth/height plane.

– Acceptance criteria often varies by type of flaw detected and are often based on stringent good workmanship criteria

Ultrasonics– Classification of flaw may not

be required.

– Sizing of flaw in length and

height planes usually emphasized

– Allows fracture mechanics /ECA acceptance
