Our Lady of Mt Carmel,
Keep watch over us and protect us from
danger.
Help us to live in peace and harmony
And to be loving and kind to each other.
Give us the courage to change what is
wrong to what is right,
Guide our teachers who teach us God’s
word,
Keep us loyal to God, our school and our
friends.
Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Pray for us.
Amen.

Messages from the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents/Guardians
Firstly, a huge thank you for how welcome everyone has made me feel under difficult
circumstances. Luckily for the children the staff have managed to keep the school running
smoothly until I can find out how things happen at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I have
thoroughly enjoyed returning to principalship and I had planned to apply for a principalship
after some leave next year. It is just happening a bit quicker than I planned. Yet, I must
admit that it is wonderful being in the heart of a school again with your wonderful children all
around.
Secondly, a very short note on Mrs Nyman, Di would like to pass on her thanks for your kind
enquiries regarding her health. The medical investigations are continuing and there is no
further news at this stage.
Lastly, we are entering into the wonderful Advent season, a fun time for all. My one request
is to remember that it is an extremely important time in the Catholic faith tradition. You will
find at the school that we will try to have fun with Christmas while attempting to maintain the
true meaning of Christmas. For example, we would appreciate some thoughtful decisions made
by our parents when purchasing or making Christmas cards for the children to share with
others. It is harder to find but well worth the effort to locate Christmas cards with a religious
theme. It is helpful for the staff when the children receive cards with the nativity scene, the
three kings, candles, Christmas bells or of course the favourite, with many of the children,
angels or shepherds!
Kind regards
Miss Sally O’Dea
P.S. I have just been informed about the Staff item at the Christmas concert. Obviously I
will need to dust off my angel halo!

Staffing
Mr Matthew Parnham has accepted a teaching position at Northam. Matthew has been a great
addition to OLMC in 2016 and everyone will miss him greatly. You will notice that the school
will be advertising for a new Early Childhood teacher in 2017. Don’t panic no one else is leaving!
Following discussions with senior staff it has been decided that Mrs Tracey Messina and Miss
Nicole Kerr will undertake the support/DOTT provider role for the whole school. This means
Miss Kerr will not be in the classroom. Therefore, the need for a replacement Yr 1/2 teacher
and the advertisement for the Early Childhood teacher.
Story Dog-Flynn
Many of you have met Flynn the newest addition to the
staff of OLMC. He is a qualified Story Dog and has been
formally assessed as suitable for work with children. He
has been owned by myself for the last two years. Obviously
he is completely vaccinated, wormed and groomed. He is
now ten years old and his previous owner worked with him
as a therapy dog. His main work is with anxious children as
he is just so calm. However, every child wants to read him
a story as he is still a novelty. This will settle down and he
will become part of the fabric of the school. We are still
travelling to Saint Francis Xavier in Geraldton once a week
as he was already committed to their specialised reading
program.

Other News Harvest Cup 'Harvest Cup' cricket match was held on Friday 11th Nov. This event was
organised by some of the children @ OLMC Primary School and 19 students participated. A huge thank you to the local business who sponsored this event and to the City of Greater Geraldton - Mullewa District Office. The children paused mid-game for a minutes silence to show their respect on Remembrance Day.
