First Sunday of Advent November 30, 2014
1) The King shall come when morning dawns, And light triumphant breaks;
When beauty gilds the eastern hills, And life to joy awakes.
2) Not as of old a little child To bear, and fight, and die,
But crowned with glory like the sun That lights the morning sky.
3) O brighter than the rising morn When He, victorious, rose,
And left the lonesome place of death, Despite the rage of foes.
4) O brighter than that glorious morn Shall this fair morning be,
When Christ, our King, in beauty comes, And we His face shall see.
5) The King shall come when morning dawns, And earth’s dark night is past; O haste the rising of that morn,
The day that aye shall last.
6) And let the endless bliss begin, By weary saints foretold,
When right shall triumph over wrong, And truth shall be extolled.
7) The King shall come when morning dawns, And light and beauty brings:
Hail, Christ the Lord! Thy people pray, Come quickly, King of kings.

Pope Francis Speaks to Our Hearts God Never Forgets Us God treats us as children; he understands us, he forgives us, he embraces us, he loves us even when we err. In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah was already affirming that even if a mother could forget her child, God never forgets us at any moment (cf.49:15). And this is beautiful!

Come Celebrate the Advent Season The GHS Madrigals Concert 7:00 PM, Our Lady of Grace Church
December 15TH
Since 1966 the Grimsley High School Madrigal Singers has been a top chamber choir in North Carolina and for the past nine years has been a community favorite around Greensboro at Christmastime.
Instantly recognizable in their Custom-made Renaissance attire, the Madrigals can be seen and heard annually at landmark world-class performance venues in North Carolina and beyond.
The Madrigals and director Marshall Johnson are proud to carry on the long tradition of elite a cappella singing at GHS and are thrilled to be sharing the joys of the holiday season with you.
DSA 2014 Time is running out on the 2014 DSA. It has been a year of increased requests for services from our DSA-funded ministries. More people are standing in line at our food pantries. More catechists are
being trained to teach our children and youth. Elder ministry participants had more opportunities to gather for reflection and fun. All of this, and much more, happens thanks to ministries funded by gifts to the DSA. • Every contribution is important, and helps us reach our goal. • The 2014 DSA closes at the end of December, so please
complete your pledge by then. • Your fellow brothers and sisters in faith are counting on you. Thank you for participating in the 2014 Diocesan Support Appeal.
Priests’ Retirement and Benefits Assessment Collection
Is Due December 31st, 2014 Our goal of $38,409 is due on December 31st, 2014. So far this year we have raised only $28,430 toward that goal. Because we have not met our goal in several years and have a shortfall of $9,979 this year, we really need your help to retire this debt. If everyone who reads this takes an active part in our parish responsibility there’s no limit to what we can do! As always, thank you and God Bless!

Polish Christmas Tradition — Oplatek Sharing of the Oplatek (pronounced opwatek) is the most ancient and beloved of all Polish Christmas traditions. Oplatek is a thin wafer made of flour and water, similar in taste to the hosts that are used for communion during Mass. The Christmas wafer is shared before the Christmas Eve supper when the head of the household traditionally breaks the wafer and then continues by sharing it with everyone at the table while wishes for peace and prosperity are exchanged. If interested, please pick-up your wafer at the church office during regular business hours. To help defray the cost, we will accept a free-will donation. Checks may be made payable to Our Lady of Grace. On the memo line please write “Christmas Wafer.” Thanks!
Evening Prayer Shawl Ministry The Evening Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet on Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 PM in the school library. Any level of crochet or knitting is welcome, even if you are a beginner. Call Kay Weiss at 676-5863 for more information.

Decorating: Tuesday, December 23rd, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Father Kowalski, Father Barone and the members of the Altar and
Flower Committees invite your participation in cleaning and decorating our church for the celebration of our Christmas Masses.
Our work will include cleaning the church on Saturday, December 20th (vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and polishing as many areas as we can do in 3 hours!) and decorating the church on Tuesday, December 23rd (with poinsettias, wreaths, and greenery, and setting up our treasured crèche).
We welcome families, singles, couples, teens and groups. Both are great opportunities for youth who need to earn service hours. There are no special requirements, just a willing spirit and love of our magnificent church. On Saturday, please bring a mop or broom, bucket, cleaning cloths, and gloves (if you use them). If you have questions, please call Betty Doyle at 856-7035 or Patty Jennings at 282-6847. This is a great way to spend time in serving our parish and preparing our hearts and spirits to meet the Christ child.
Please note: Mass times for Christmas Day were listed incorrectly in last week’s bulletin. Correct Mass times are 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Christmas Day.

The Scrip program is an ongoing fundraiser for Our Lady of Grace School. It’s win-win: we raise money while making it easy for our parish families to order retail cards for their own use or as gifts.
How does Scrip work? You purchase retail gift cards through our program at face value. OLG then orders the cards through the Scrip Program at less than their face value (the percentage earned per card varies according to the retailer), and thereby earns funds for the school. You may already patronize many of the retailers who participate in the program, i.e. Starbucks, Brueggers, Target, Landsend, etc. These cards make great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers!!!
A list of the most common retailers is included on the order form, which can be found on the OLG school website (http://www.olgsch.org) under “Supporting OLG,” as well as the gift card denominations (most commonly $10, $15, $25, $50, or $100). Fill out the order form, choose as many cards you would like and specify the denomination. Order forms are due to the OLG School front office once a month. The due date for Christmas is Thursday, December 11th. Please send your order form to the school office with a check made out to OLG/PTO Scrip, and we will have your cards ready for pick-up by December 17th. I will send an email to the address given at the top of the form, and notify you when the cards are ready for pick-up. Since these cards are equivalent to cash, an adult must sign for pick-up in the school front office.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Maura Heyn (336-545-4578; mkheyn@uncg.edu) who is coordinating this fundraiser for OLG. Thank you very much for supporting our school!
Please review the Inclement Weather Policy found on our website at www.olgchurch.org. A n n o u n c e m e n t s r e g a r d i n g closings/delays are broadcast on
Fox8, WFMY News 2 and XII News 12. If you have questions or are not able to access the internet, call the church office at 274-6520 during regular business hours for any policy questions.
Congratulations to all of our chess players for competing in the first OLG Chess Tournament!
Our kindergarten classes had a wonderful trip to see UNCG's "The Velveteen Rabbit" this week! It wrapped up a very fun unit of study on fairy tales!
Thank you to all of our wonderful dads who came out for the 2014 Donuts for Dads morning
- we so appreciate your support!
