Transcript of Otago lane

Sean Sweeney

Otago Lane is a unique area of the west end of Glasgow. It encapsulates the bohemian atmosphere of the location.

The lane is home to many small businesses that are unique throughout the UK

Originally a building firm had made plans to build a 200 flat apartment building that’d spread from Otago Lane to the river Kelvin.

Recently however the building firm had withdrawn their plans.

It wasn’t long before the council received plans for a 45 flat complex.

Loss of trees in a conservation area.

Stress on the already chaotic parking system.

Access to local businesses.

Visual amenity

Voltaire & Rousseau is a long established second hand book shop. One of the last of it’s kind.

Mixed up records; buys , sells and trade second hand vinyl, CDs, DVDs and books.

Tchai-Ovna tea house. Provides over 80 varieties of tea, shishas and vegetarian food

Original plans were withdrawn after months of protests.

The new plans have reduced the properties to 45. This leaves less time for objections due to the smaller nature of the plans.

The creation of these properties would gravely affect the businesses and damage one of the last independent hubs in the West End of Glasgow.
