In Ornamento y Sistema, Andrea Canepa draws us into a world where daily objects that surround our private domain, are transformed into devices which question public reality. The exhibition presents pieces that are the result of the deconstruction and later re-systematizing of four typical bourgeois decorative elements. These objects remit us to moments of leisure, recreation and journey: a branch of flowers, a series of petit- pois embroideries of home loving motives, puzzles that represent distant and idyllic landscapes and a Persian carpet. Canepa’s artistic proposal consists of altering the above mentioned the objects modifying and even depriving them of their decorative function. Following thus, the avant garde tradition of the modernist design, the artist distils that which is superfluous to renew them as purified entities.

In March 1, 2013 I entered a flower shop and asked for a flower arrangement with: 1 white broom (ECB.BC.) 2 yellow daisy (MDRT.AMARL.) 3 fuchsias alstroemeria (ATEMR.FS.) 3 tuberous asclepias (ACP.TBRS.) 3 fuchsias gerberas (GER.FS.) 3 oranges buttercups (RNCL.NRJ.) 3 white roses (RS.BC.) 4 wax flowers (FDCR.) 4 branches of ivy (HD.) 4 branches of mistletoe (MDG.) 8 branches of palm areca (PM.ARC.)I took it home and drew one by one all the pieces that composed the flower arrangement and then organized them by order and size.

In Inventario, the artist deconstructs the flower arrangement and draws obsessively each of its elements: stems, leaf by leaf and petal by petal, giving each one a code and number.
