SDN UM BACKGROUND
Most Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) consists of Compute, Storage and Network. Having addressed Compute in the CIaaS master usage model published in 2012 the Infrastructure working group turned to Scale out Storage and Software Defined Networking in 2013.
The SDN UM addresses and identifies:
1. What is SDN, and why is it beneficial2. Usage scenarios3. Lifecycle model4. Usage requirements5. RFP requirements (PEAT integration)6. Required industry actions

collaboration on Southbound interfaces focusing on (dynamic network segmentation into logical groups, multi-path traffic, layer 2 network bridging)
with other groups as appropriate on other areas of SDN. e.g. Abstracted control of network capabilities, Integration of network automation into overall provisioning and orchestration (in line with CIaaS MUM)
and full production implementations of SDNs in cloud environments as quickly as practical.
for initiatives, including OpenFlow, across all cloud-provider platforms.

Broader scope
Industry realignment
Jun 2014
SDN is a key element of the software defined data center (SDDC) as a means to build IaaS
APIs to the network allow for more dynamic configuration and automated provisioning
This is a fast moving part of the industry, and much of what we did in H1-2013 has been overtaken by events
More to come later this year
