' “The 5,400-passenger Oasis launched in 2009 as the largest cruise shipever built. In addition to debuting many at-sea firsts, including an outdoorAquaTheater, Oasis represents a revolution in design. An open-air corridorcarved out along the length of the ship creates space for a tropical foliage- &eatery-filled Central Park & a Coney Island-style Boardwalk.” CruiseCriticwhich ranked it as the 4 most popular ship in the world in September 2013.th

' TWCCruiser, Mar 2010, 4:25 PM: "The Oasis of the Seas" is the 4 mostth

searched term on Google this hour.

ALONE TIME (SOLITUDE)' CupCrazy, Aug 2013: It’s time toreveal a secret. For someone who justwants to escape all the hustle & bustleto a quiet place to read outside, this isfor you.

Go to the port side of deck 14 &walk all the way forward, past all ca-bins, to the end of the hall. There youwill find a door leading out to this secret spot. Once outside, you will findyourself on a secluded deck that is on top of the ship’s bridge & one deckbelow the Solarium. On each side (wing), they have high-powered binoculars. This location is not shown on any map.

As an added bonus, there’s one more secret to this secret deck. In addi-tion to being a secluded spot, it is also home to a piece of Royal Caribbeanhistory. When Oasis of the Seas was built, one of the first things the crew didwas to add a number of “lucky coins” to the ship’s keel, aspart of maritime tradition. These lucky coins are held in acabinet that is welded to the ship & has a smallcommemorative plaque. If you look around you’ll find thisplaque.' Peacemakr59, Aug 2013: That telescope are awesome! I was on the Allure for a 2-night cruise to nowherebefore its inaugural sailing & we sailed about 3 miles outjust along the coast of Florida. My husband & I found

these binoculars one night & we could easily see A1A in Ft. Lauderdale &could see the signs on the buildings!' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: Want to be alone? A hidden location, until now, onDeck 7, the port side aft (back of the ship), kind of behind the rock wall thereis deck space with a couple chairs, & there is NEVER anyone there. If youreally want to get away from 6,100 other people & you don’t have your ownbalcony, this is the place to go & relax.

AQUATHEATER SHOW' Preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhPv5qr6cq8' Age Restrictions: Admission to certain performances, such as at ComedyLive, are restricted to those guests who are 18 years of age or older.' Reservations Onboard: Shows may also be reserved onboard the shipat the box office or with the interactive television system in your stateroom.' Cancellations: Prior to sailing, you may change or cancel your showreservations on this website up to 4 days prior to your cruise start date. Onceonboard, cancellations must be made at least 4 hours prior to show time.' Weather: Most shows will operate rain or shine, excluding the Aqua Thea-ter shows. However, in the event of a show cancellation, every effort will bemade to accommodate guests for other available show times.' Emmy, Sep/2009: When you make an online show reservation, your Sea-Pass card will be updated to reflect that you have reserved admission to thespecified show & show time requested. Remember to take your SeaPassCard with you to the show as you will need to provide it to enter the show.' CupCrazy, Aug/26/2013: The Aqua-Theater located on deck 6 aft. So manyshows & events happen in this theaterthroughout the week, the biggest showbeing ‘Oasis of Dreams’ water showsimilar to Cirque du Soleil. Also this iswhere the great belly flop competitiontakes place. This theater on Oasis wasthe first of its kind on a cruise ship.

ART' DarryDFL, Aug 2013: There are 42 “Small Wonders”art items on the Oasis. These are 3D pictures in ViewMasters, objects in magnifying telescopes, & objectsmounted on the walls. The Art Gallery has a list of thehidden art or “bronze look-ins.” All 42 are listed with deckand location; but, you still had to look around for them. Afew were totally different, i.e., in the Crown VikingLounge. Have fun.' Borg1of2, Sep/15/2010: One of the best places wasout on the Sports Deck by the Starboard Flowrider andSports desk. The trick is you need to get to it either earlyAM or late PM. The art is on the other side of the ZipRider roped area. You could probably cheat and duckunder; but, they are sensitive, for the right reasons, aboutthat area.' CupCrazy, Sep 2013: Its breaking news like that thealligator in this picture is reading. It is one of hundreds ofsmall & big statues and pieces of art spread out around the ship. The alligatoris on deck 4 mid-ship, just outside of Comedy Live.

BALCONY DININGCruisingWithTwins, Oct 2013 – We’d book it again if we were cruising with agroup of people & planned to host them for dinner on our balcony, we had anentire meal from Chops delivered even though officially it was not part of themain dining room menu. And we had lasagna delivered from Giovanni’s aswell. Both times we didn’t get the service charge.

BOARDING THE SHIP' Lorey2007, Mar 2010: We were on the Oasis for the Feb 6 cruise, & itth

was incredible! We arrived at Terminal 18 at 10:15 & were in Group 1 to boardthe ship & were on at 11:15. So get there early.' Radio, Mar/6/2010: We left the Hyatt Pier 66 for the Oasis at about 11am,& there was considerable traffic for our short, 3-mile ride to the port.

OASIS OF THE SEAS

As we entered the Security Check Point on Eisenhower Blvd, there areonly 2 lanes for cars. (There are many more at the Eller Drive entrance.) Ittook about 20 minutes to be cleared to enter the port.

When we arrived at the pier about 5 min later, things went very smooth,& very fast. They were already boarding, & we were whisked right through theline, & up to the Gangway

We went down to the Café Promenade to grab a few quick bites.

BLIMP (AEROSTAT)' RCI: “An aerostat is a lighter-than-air object that usually remainstethered to its base by a long wire. Some people erroneously use words likeblimp or dirigible, but, the latter normally transport people or cargo overlong distances. ‘Aerostat’ is the broader & more accurate term. If thisexperiment ends up on the cutting room floor with many of our other dis-carded ideas, you will never again need to use the word ‘aerostat’.”

CABIN' Radio, Mar 2010: If you have a triple-occupancy or quad-occupancybalcony cabin, your bed is near the door, & the sofa & TV are near thebalcony. If you have a double-occupancy balcony cabin, it will be reversed.' 2Dogs, Oct/11/2009 — If booking a balcony, book on Starboard Side,Deck 6 or 7. It faces the docks during the cruise.' DarryDFL, Oct/11/2010: There is a clothes line in your shower. Use it tohang wet clothes. That’s why PegEgg’s Packing List has clothes pins. Seehttp://DarryD.com/CC/Packing_Checklist.pdf ' DarryDFL, Nov/13/2009: The cabin walls are metal, so stop at a store &buy a clip with a magnetic backing so that you can place important notes onthe inside wall next to the inside of your cabin door.' MoonDawie, Dec/10/2008: Just ask your cabin steward & he/she will re-move the contents of the refrigerator. It’s a small refrigerator & doesn’t get icecold, but will do the trick. I also asked for a bottle opener & gave a little extratip at the end. ' JoeBat1, Jun/11/2009: For really COLD soda, buy a collapsing cooler &have the room steward keep it filled with ice.

' Radio, Mar 2010: You only have to partially close the closet doors. Thenthe actuator takes control & closes them the rest of the way (like a car trunkthat is motor actuated). I don’t think that its needed, but I think it’s cool.' Radio, Mar 2010: The Balcony Cabins offer a “resin” type balcony railinginstead of teak. Very smart.' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: There is a master switch at the front door that cutsout all of the lights. The two switches by the bed, one that controls the roomlights & the other that controls subdued lighting over the artwork.' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: In cabins with Balcony, the balcony door needs to belatched for the heat/air to come on. You can’t lock yourself out on the balconyno matter how hard you close the sliding glass doors. You can close the door, but the latch won’t engage so you can then just open it up again. The ACdoes turn off .' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: The TV has on-screen interactive abilities; there isa keyboard which comes with the flat screen TV to:

Ø Sign up for wireless internet.Ù Surf the web.Ú Sign up for activities.Û Reserve a table at any one of the several specialty restaurants onboard.Ü Browse your calendar which shows you the customized itinerary foryour trip & it shows your bookings (shore & on-board).

' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: Life jackets are not kept in your cabin. It will begiven to you at your life station, if required. Thus leaving more room to storeall of your personal stuff

CAROUSEL' CupCrazy, Aug/23/2013: The carousel features 18 figures suspended fromstainless steel poles & one ADA acces-sible chariot that were created frompoplar wood. Eleven of the figures aretraditional style carousel horses thatinclude the intricately designed RoyalCaribbean lead armored horse, that

features the crown & anchor logo. The Carousel also showcases a time-honored menagerie of animals such as a zebra, giraffe, jaguar, elephant, lion, ostrich & even a crowned frog prince. The stationary chariot is a peacock. TheCarousel is located on the Boardwalk deck 6, aft & is FREE for all ages. Thisis a short video on how the Carousel was built.

CARPETS' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: I walked a lot of the decks & all of the borders of thecarpets in the hallways were green on both sides of the ship. The only red-versus-green is on RCCL’s website & on the ship’s electronic maps.

CENTRAL PARK' CupCrazy, Aug 2013: The first task in the design of Central Park wasfiguring out what plants would thrive in the high winds & salty air aboard acruise ship. To find the answer, Royal Caribbean set up a scale model ofCentral Park on their private island in Labadee, Haiti, & tested a host of plantspecies while Oasis was being built in Europe.

There was one important condition that the test facility could not repli-cate: movement. The climate on a cruise ship changes each day, especiallyduring the Fall & Winter months. The result was that some of the plants thatflourished in Haiti, didn’t do so well once aboard the Oasis. It took a while oftrial & error, but they eventually figured out what plants tend to enjoy lifeaboard a cruise ship.

Another logistical challenge with Central Park was the installation of allthe plants. The park is found on the 8 deck, meaning there is a host of wiringth

& other infrastructure found beneath it. Digging up the flower beds every timea repair was needed would be a time consuming & expensive task, so thedesigners came up with another idea. The flower beds in the park are actuallya labyrinth of steel boxes that hook into place & are suspended over the deckbelow. In addition, no two boxes are shaped alike, essentially making CentralPark one giant 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle. The design is complex, but solvedan important problem for the ship’s designers. Now, anytime a repair isneeded or plants need to be changed, it’s as simple as popping out a fewboxes.

OASIS OF THE SEAS

Finally, the last hurdle in setting up Central Park was figuring out howon earth to get hundreds of plants onboard a cruise ship. When the Oasisarrived in Fort Lauderdale to prepare for her maiden voyage, the planners ofCentral Park informed Royal Caribbean’s management that it would take 6weeks for the area to be fully complete. They were given 4 days.

To pull off this seemingly impossible task, the crew brought in an enor-mous construction crane on a barge that lowered all of the plants into CentralPark, as opposed to the original plan of bringing them in by hand. Theyworked around the clock & managed to do the impossible, completing thepark before the ship’s first sailing.' CupCrazy, Aug/24/2013: If it rains while on Oasis, youalso don’t have anything to worry about. RCI has reallythought of everything. As most people will probably staydry indoors, some people still want to stay outside inCentral Park. Oasis offers umbrellas in Central Park foruse. Of course, we’re hoping to have 7 days of sunnyskies & to not use them.

CONCIERGE LOUNGE' Radio, Mar 2010: The Concierge Lounge is for Suite guests, & D+ mem-bers.

CRUISE COMPASS' Cruise Compass, Aug 10, 2013' Radio, Mar 2010: The daily, 10-page “Cruise Compass” is a little confusingat first. However, it can be divided into morning, afternoon, & evening ActivityDaily Planners. It really does make sense. After all, no other ship offers theactivities, & dining choices as this ship.' Darry D, Nov 2013: The Cruise Compass is printed in English, French,German, Italian, and Spanish.

GANGWAY' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: When leaving the ship, the elevator actually has abutton for the gangway. Just push the “gangway” button & it automaticallystops & a voice tells you to exit. You don’t have to remember, “Now WhatDeck did the announcement say?” We all did that one time on our cruises.

GENESIS' CupCrazy, Sep 2013: When Oasis was first imagined, planned & ordered in 2006, before she got her name thatwe all know today, Royal Caribbean refereed to her asProject Genesis. RCI gives a shout out to the originalproject name with this art work in the Promenade.

HAIRSPRAY (THE PLAY)' DarryDFL, Aug 2013: This is a not-to-be-missed play that will have youlaughing one moment and cheering the next.' Radio, Mar 2010: No photos are permitted during Hairspray.

HAND WASHING STANDS' Radio, Mar 2010: Hand washing stands are throughout Cen-tral Park.

HELIPAD' Radio, Mar 2010: When they designed the ship, they put theVitality Spa near where the entry would be for the Helipad. Itturns out that a Crew Fitness Area is just below that deck, & itwouldn’t be convenient for passengers to get to that level. Agreat area to view the stars is just above the Bridge. It is com-pletely dark, & perfect for stargazing. The entrance to the area is Deck 14(Fwd Port). Not too many passengers ever go there except for sail away.

HURT BOX' CupCrazy, Aug 2013: The Hurt Boxis one of the best & most excitingactivities/competitions on Royal Carib-bean ships. For those who don’t knowwhat the hurt box is. INTERNET ACCESS' twcCruiser, Mar 2012: I sailed Oasis on February 20 . The internetth

connection was extremely stable & based on speed tests, unexpectedly fast.I was using my own laptop on the open sea (not at any ports) in my stateroom& was getting DSL speeds (5 Mbps Down; 0.5 Mbps Up for the tech savvy)which I didn't even know was possible via satellite.

ON-AIR CLUB' CupCrazy, Sep 2013: The On-Air Club is located in thePromenade on deck 5, port side.

It is also the home to Karaoke in the evenings.

PARADES' DarryDFL, Aug/6/2013: Yes, there are parades onboard this cruise ship. They are held on the Royal Promenade. Parades arehigh energy & fun to watch. Best place to watch is in front of Sorrento’s PizzaParlor, the Pub, or the Piano Bar Lounge which is where most of the actiontakes place. Pay attention to the globe above the pub. Don’t miss the 1st

parade on Saturday.

PARK CAFÉCupCrazy, Oct 2013: The most famousfood item on any ship at sea was bornon Oasis: The Roast Beef Sandwich. You can get this sandwich from ParkCafé located in Central Park on deck 8,mid-ship, port side. This is a must-tryitem. The best part about Park Café is:There is no charge to eat there.

PHOTOS' Borg1of2, Sep 2010: Make sure you take the boarding pictures — not theone on your Sea Pass Card; the one done by ships camera folks somewherebefore the ship as you embark, after check-in, even if you have absolutely nointention of buying it. The Oasis has a facial recognition system for allphotos. If you don’t take this boarding photo, your photos will not be groupedtogether for the remainder of the cruise. They take your Sea Pass, & thephotos go with your room number, & every time a picture is taken it goes inyour “folder”.

' CupCrazy, Sep 2013: Everyone loves taking & gettingtheir picture taken. There are always RCI staff membersout snapping pictures around the ship. You’ll see them inthe Dining room, when you get off the ship at each port &all over in the evening to capture you looking your best.On most other ships all the pictures are placed in thephoto gallery & you have to hunt for your pictures. It feelslike looking for a needle in a hay stack sometimes. OnOasis, they have made it easy for you. On your seapasscard you are assigned a folder. It will say Photo #-# &your folder number, for example 1-57. The first number isthe tower your pictures will be in & the second is the folder. Everyone in yourcabin should have the same folder. Focus Photo Gallery is located on deck5 & 6 midship.

POOLS & HOT TUBS' Radio, Mar 2010: All pools & hot tubs are fresh water.' BeachNative, Aug 2013: CentralPark was put together like a big jigsawpuzzle & each block can be lifted out ifany work is needed to be done. For thisto happen a crane is needed. Whatwould happen if the ship is at sea & oneof those blocks needed to be lifted?RCI thought of that & installed a per-manent crane on the ship. If you spendanytime at the pool you will be able tosee it but might not even realize itsthere. In the picture you can see the crane on top of thepools on the starboard side.

PORT & SHOPPING DESK' CupCrazy, Sep 2013: A big thing for most people oncruises is the on-shore activities. If you need any adviceor have any questions about shopping while we’re in port

For more tips, visit http://DarryD.com (October 30, 2013) page 16 of 21

you’ll want to go to the Port & Shopping desk located on deck 5 in thePromenade. The shopping guide will point you in the direction of whateveryou’re looking for whether it be jewelry, clothes or souvenirs.

PORT SIDE' Grandma Petunia, Sep 2013: Almost every time you enter a hallway, you’llsee signs pointing to FWD & AFT, & telling you if you’re on the Port orStarboard side. If you know you are facing the front of the ship, PORT will beon your LEFT. “Port” & “Left” each have 4 letters. Also, if you hold up your lefthand, with fingers together & thumb extended, it will form the letter “L”. (I don’thave a mnemonic or visual aid for determining Starboard, but if you learn theclues for the Port Side, Starboard will automatically be the other one.)

RCI VISA CARD' Anon, Aug 2009: We have had our RCI Visa card since 2006. Our up-coming Freedom cruise is our FREE cruise from RCI points. I, highly, recom-mend the card. Anything that is purchased from Royal Caribbean is 2-points-per-$1, and everything else is 1-point-per-$1. When you use the card exclu-sively, the points rack up fast.

T-SHIRT' Cincy-David, Aug 2009: This is the very earlydraft of the t-shirt that I have been working on. I amnot sure I like the square format versus open text for-mat like on the Liberty shirts last year. There is stillsome space at the top for a Group Name or TagLine. I have left the back blank on this shirt, so I amopen for ideas or we can leave it blank to cut costdown (adds about $10 for two-sided shirts) or we cando both & make it your choice. That is what is greatabout Zazzle: Everyone can order what they want.
