NWTC Early Childhood
Giving Credit Where Credit is Due
Brief History• NWTC Associate Degree program is 12 years
old• As CPL requests increased, we looked for a
way to build in consistency.• For the past five years: “Experienced Teacher
Fast Track” system, developed by the EC Team• Now: Credit for Prior Learning Course (3
credits)
Experienced Teacher Fast Track
• Very individualized• Rated learners in nine areas of competence• Allowed us to be consistent• Took advantage of The Registry, an organization
that by law, collects professional development information for child care workers.
• Extremely time consuming and difficult to compensate faculty. The process was still too slow.
Collaborative Effort• Wisconsin Early Childhood Association• Wisconsin Council for Children and Families• WTCS Colleges, especially NWTC, MATC-
Milwaukee, Madison College, and Blackhawk
• Mary Beth Boettcher complied material, built course in the Blackboard System and now is electronically available to all.
