Church-wide Intergenerational Missions Session
(sponsored by WMU)
Rev. Roger and Judy Hansard, Mission Service Corps missionaries with the North American Mission Board and leaders of the Region-al Education Center Ministries in Tazwell, TN will be at Smithwood on October 29 from 10:00 a.m. – noon to tell us about their work. Light refreshments will be served. Rev. Hansard is Sheila Wylie’s brother. The church will be collecting hygiene items and peanut butter for the Center during September and October, or you may purchase a hen for $6.00 for a family as part of their holiday meal. This is an intergenerational event for all Smithwood folks. Some and learn about this important missions opportunity that our mis-sions giving supports!
11:11 Renewed Strength Through Writing
The Veterans’ Writing Group will meet this Thursday, October 6, at
6:45 p.m. Please note the day and time change. This week’s
topic will be “Word Made Flesh.” We will be looking at different
ways to get thoughts and ideas into written language. Contact
Miki Cates @ (865) 888-0313 or email her at
mikicates@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
*Prior meeting attendance is never a requirement. Spread the word and
encourage your veteran loved ones to attend!
There will be a Christmas Workshop for the
Sanctuary Choir on Sunday, October 23rd af-
ter the morning worship service. We will have
soup, salad and singing in preparation for the
Christmas musical worship. Bring a friend to
participate—new voices always welcome. No
experience needed!
A new pilot food program to help about 60 students of local ele-mentary school during fall, winter, and spring break weeks is being initiated. FCMC Board voted to give additional funds to expand food program to summer weeks if program is successful.
Clients will have an opportunity to sign up for counseling services with a licensed marriage and family therapist beginning October 1st. Clients will complete an interview process. Only 5 clients at a time will be served with the client paying $10 a session and the FCMC paying the remainder through Special Needs budget funds.
Tennis shoes and back packs were distributed as the school year began. FCMC Board voted to fund additional $500 to purchase more new tennis shoes. New/gently used children's coats are al-ways welcome as the winter months approach.
Hunger Hike, October 2, 2:30 pm, at Victor Ashe Park. All donations from our participating churches will go directly to FCMC Food Pan-try.
Pecan Fundraiser — Orders can be placed through participating church representatives through October 17. Pecans can be picked up in early November. Look for details soon through each individu-al church's promotion.
Kroger Rewards— Remember to re-sign up online by typing Foun-tain City Ministry Center or Agency ID number 19909. You may al-so call 800-576-4377 and choose option #3. We are on track to re-ceive about $2,000 a quarter if everyone participates again.
Gift cards for $15 toward a ham/turkey will be distributed to clients between Thanksgiving and Christmas again this year due to availa-ble funds.
Community Thanksgiving service—-November 20 , time and loca-tion TBA. A love offering will benefit FCMC.
Individual giving to FCMC has been most generous recently! Minis-try expansion has been the wonderful result.

Life Line Screening will be coming to Smithwood again this Monday, October 3rd. The results from the Monday, July 11, 2016 screening are as follows:
We are thankful to be a part of bringing such an important service to the members of our community.
There is a need for an additional volunteer to work the first Tuesday of each month to help bag food in the food pantry. This would be for two hours from 2-4 p.m. once a month. Please contact Pat Wyrick, team leader for Tuesdays, at wwwpw@bellsouth.net if you are interested in assisting with this ministry.
