ABOUT THE COURSE
Fine art as a subject responds
to the constant evolution o
global issues and culture.
The structure and contento the BA (Hons) Fine Art
course at NUCA empowers
you to make meaningul
contributions to society
through your engagement
with your practice. Successul
completion o the course will
enable you to pursue fne art ina proessional or postgraduate
environment and will enhance
your potential or employment
within the expanding range
o creative industries.
The course is structured
around three studio areas:Painting, Print & New Media,
and Sculpture. The range o
subjects within these areas
includes drawing, painting,
perormance, object making,
photography, installation,
etching, screenprinting,
photographic processes,wood construction, metalwork,
modeling, carving, mould
making, casting, sound,
video and Photoshop.
You will acquire skills based
in many o these elds
and throughout the courseyou’ll be encouraged to use
methodology appropriate
to the concepts you are
developing and the media
you are working with.
The interplay between subject
areas is fexible, allowing
you to vary your practice.
A programme o lectures,
seminars and proessional
practice workshops areintegrated with studio practice,
resulting in a sophisticated
and comprehensive learning
experience. Signicantly
all course sta, whether
permanent or visiting, are
themselves practising artists.
The course also invites majorartists, critics and theorists
o national and international
standing to give talks and
seminars in order to add
richness to the programme.
This, combined with strong
sta and student involvement
in internationally recognised
organisations such as EAST
International, Sainsbury
Centre or Visual Arts and
Outpost Gallery, provide
an enviable context or
proessional development.

LEVEL ONE
Level One introduces you to the
course and its resources and
begins to establish individual
studio practice in a challenging,critical environment.
The emphasis at Level One
is on the acquisition and
understanding o the skills,
methodologies and conceptual
ramework within studio areas,
the adjustment to degree-
level study, the questioning o
the unctions and institutions
associated with fne art practice
and the idea o fne art as
a means o communication
establishing the oundation or
your own personal enquiry.
You may participate in anoptional study visit. Recent
destinations include Paris,
Amsterdam, Venice and Berlin.
LEVEL TWO
In Level Two you will develop
a deeper appreciation othe content and context
o your work and will be
exposed to the reactions and
interpretations o others as
the relationship between work
and audience is introduced.
The curriculum is designed
to provoke responses rom
you, which can be shared
with the whole o your year
group. A growing awareness o
proessionalism is engendered
throughout the year.
Increasingly you will be required
to articulate the content o your
work and how you position it
in relation to contemporary
and historical practices within
fne art. There are distinctlearning and teaching methods
employed at Level Two to
provide dierent settings
or orums within which to
explore these issues: through
student-led seminars and
group critiques and through a
public exhibition o your work.
LEVEL THREE
Level Three o the course is the
culmination o your study.
The emphasis is on developing
your studio work towards
an exhibition or the fnalassessment and producing a
signifcant body o research
and writing. The fnal exhibition
sees the completion o the
course: this is a major event
where you will have the
opportunity to exhibit your work
in the same excellent spaceused by EASTInternational
during the summer months.
As part o the exhibition Level
Three students work together
to produce a publication to
accompany the show.
Attended by curators,collectors, art buyers,
business and the public, this
showcase event is a major
opportunity to promote yoursel
and start your career.

interview. This is an invaluable
chance for us to meet you
face to face and is the major
factor in determining the
success of your submission.
The interview gives us the
opportunity to assess yourwork and the suitability of your
application and also provides
you with a chance to assess

The key focus of your
application process is onyour portfolio. As a minimum
both Foundation and Honours
Degree courses require
applicants to have 240 tariff
points, including the equivalent
of two C grades at GCE
Advanced level supported by
passes in four other subjects at
GCSE level (grade C or above).
Year 0 entry requires a
minimum of 200 tariff points

TUITION FEES LOAN
New UK* or EU students no
longer need to pay tuition feesupfront as they will be eligible
for a Tuition Fees Loan.
This loan covers the cost of
their course and will be paid
directly to the University
College by the Student
Loan Company. Students
will only start to repay this
loan once they have left
the University College and
are earning over £15,000.
Students are not required to
take out this loan and should
they wish to can pay their fees
at the start of their course.
Norwich University College of
the Arts will charge all new UK

This loan helps with living costs
such as accommodation, food,
clothes, travel and courseexpenses. This loan is available
to new and existing eligible
UK* students and the amount
students receive is dependent
on household income and any
Maintenance Grant received.
A student not receiving aMaintenance Grant, living
outside London and not living
with their parents will be able to
borrow up to £4,950 whereas
those who live with their
parents will be able to borrow
up to £3,838. 72% of the loan
amount is available to all eligiblestudents and is not income
assessed. The remaining
28% will be dependent

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
UNIVERSITY MANAGED
ACCOMMODATION
We offer a range of self-cateringaccommodation for students,
both in Halls of Residence and
purpose built fully furnished
student houses, all of which
are within easy access of the
University College. All rooms
are furnished single bedrooms
grouped around shared facilities.Rents for 2009/10 ranged
between £80 and £100 a week.
We cannot guarantee a place in
our accommodation for all first
year students. Our allocation
procedure prioritises international
students, UK students farfrom home and those with
medical or disability issues.
