ASCENSION OF JESUS HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION
THURSDAY, MAY 14 MASSES ARE :
7:00 AM ~ 12:10 PM ~ 7:30 PM
Novena to the Holy Spirit
Traditionally, a novena takes place over a nine-day period and focuses on a special intention. On May 15, the day after Ascension Thursday, we will begin a Novena to the Holy Spirit. This novena commemo-rates the nine days that Mary and the Apostles spent in prayer between Jesus’ Ascension and Pentecost. A novena can be said alone or in groups. Our intention as a parish is to pray for an out-pouring of the Gifts of the Spirit on Saint Luke the Evangelist Church. The Novena prayers can be found in this bulletin.
Forty Hours Devotion The Forty Hours Devotion is a special forty-hour period of continuous prayer made before the Blessed Sacrament in solemn exposition. We will begin this special time of prayer 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 17th. The Blessed Sacrament will remain on the altar in a monstrance during the 40 hours. We will gather for personal or public prayer in adoration of our Lord. The Blessed Sacrament is reposed in the tabernacle for Monday daily Mass, and then returned for exposi-tion after Mass. On Monday, we will have the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3pm, Benediction, at 6:30pm, and the Cenacle Rosary at 7:00pm. The devotion concludes on Tuesday, May 19th at 12Noon with Mass.

Working together to keep St. Luke vibrant... Religious Education, outreach ministries, and building maintenance at St. Luke are all made possible by the generous giving of our parishioners. As summer (finally) approaches and we anticipate lighter attendance, we want to make you aware of an easy way to ensure your contributions are consistent to cover our monthly expenses.
Parish Pay is an on-line giving service that makes it easy for you to budget your giving and helps us budget our expenses. Our parish benefits from a more accurate and consistent pro-jected budget, allowing us to serve our faith community as well as the community around us. Parish Pay allows us to be good stewards of the financial gifts God has given us – both as in-dividuals and as a Parish.
You may enroll for monthly contributions at parishpay.com or call Linda Underwood at the rectory (508-366-5502) for more information. Parish Pay Enrollment Forms can be found in the back of church and returned to the rectory or dropped in the collection basket.

May 17, 2015 "DISMAS IS FAMILY "
For the past ten years, Parish Outreach volunteers have developed a rich relationship with Dismas House by breaking bread with the residents in Worcester and the Dismas Family
Farm in Oakham.
For over 25 years, Dismas has been a beacon of hope for former prisoners in greater Worcester, providing a need for healthy reentry from prison to those in need of recovery, work and housing. A small, but dedicated staff - many former prisoners themselves, as well as work study students from Holy Cross College and other volunteers provide key educational, recovery and reentry tools to the residents. The Dismas Family Farm complements the other Dismas programs. Designed to be self-supporting, the working farm produces crops, raises animals, as well as making finished wood products and candles. Be sure to visit them at the Westborough Farmers Market this summer! For more informtion please call Nan/Outreach Office @ 508 366-8509 or check out their website
ANNUAL PARTNERS IN CHARITY APPEAL OUR FAITH IN ACTION
Once each year we appeal to all parishioners to join us in support of the many agencies of the Diocese of Worcester. The office for Vocations & Seminarian Education shares in your support. Our own Father Jim Boland says he has been “truly thankful for many great opportunities to really grow in my voca-tion," especially during his time in formation. One such opportunity came in 2011. Father Boland was able to attend the Summer Program for Spiritual For-mation for Diocesan Seminarians at the Institute of Priestly Formation (IPF) in Omaha, Nebraska. For 10 weeks on the campus of Creighton University, he was able to grow in his prayer life, beginning with an eight-day silent retreat. “It was a turning point in my journey toward the priesthood,” he states. “I came to know the Lord in a new way that I hadn’t previously. It was an opportunity that I was thankful for because many don’t get to receive such a great grace of taking eight days of silence with God. With-out the diocese’s assistance, there would have been no way to have such an opportunity and for that, I am truly grateful.”
Our goal this year is $130,000. Please prayerfully consider making a pledged gift to this year’s appeal. A gift in any amount will be received with gratitude. For your convenience, envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church. Please return them to the parish office or drop your pledge in the collection basket as soon as you are able. Thank you for your generosity and support.
ATTENTION PARISHIONERS!
With our Faith Formation registration hap-
pening now, we are seeking interested people
to be Mentors of Faith. Our programs cannot happen without volunteers like yourself. If
you are between the ages of 16 and 96 and
are a person of faith, then we need YOU! Our
volunteer teachers (Catechists) this past
year ranged in age from 16 – 93; 62 dedicat-
ed volunteers shared at least one hour per
week with our young people and our need is as
great for this coming year. As a Catechist,
you are a facilitator and role model in your
position of sharing God’s Word and Christ’s
teachings. Please contact the Office of Reli-
gious Education at 508-366-8509 and ask to
speak with Dianne Patrick, Director of Reli-
gious Education or Gloria Josephs.

Catholic Prayers: Novena to the Holy Spirit
ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses I offer my-
self, soul and body, to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of
Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice and the might of Your
love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move
and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray
with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully
guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light
and listen to Your voice and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to
You and give myself to You and ask You by Your compassion to watch
over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at
His Five Wounds and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring his opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore
You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You.
Give me grace, O Holy Ghost, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, "Speak,
Lord, for Your servant heareth." Amen
PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Christ Jesus, before ascending into heaven, You promised to send the Holy Spirit to Your
apostles and disciples. Grant that the same Spirit may perfect in our lives the work of Your grace and love. Grant us, the Spirit of Fear of The Lord that we may be filled with a loving reverence toward You.
Grant us the Spirit of Piety that we may find peace and fulfillment in the service of God while serving others; Grant us the Spirit of Fortitude that we may bear our cross with You and, with courage, over come the obstacles that interfere with our salvation; Grant us the Spirit of Knowledge that we may know You and know ourselves and grow in holiness; Grant us the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten our minds with the light of Your truth; Grant us the Spirit of Counsel that we may choose the surest way of doing Your will, seeking first the Kingdom; Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom that we may aspire to the things that last forever; Teach us to be Your faithful disciples and animate us in every way with Your Spirit.

A novena is a practice where a prayer or groups of prayers are recited for nine consecutive days for special intentions and petitions. The praying of a novena draws its origin from the practice of the disciples who prayed in the upper room for the nine days between the ascension of our Lord and the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Pentecost Novena for Life
Holy Spirit, At the dawn of creation,
You brought order out of chaos, Light out of darkness,
Life out of nothingness.
Breathe on us once again, And change this culture of death
Into a Culture of Life.
Inspire in your people A spirit of generous welcome
For each and every life, No matter how unexpected or dependent
That life may be.
Holy Spirit, You are the Advocate.
As you fill us with Yourself, Make us advocates
For the unborn and all the vulnerable.
