Meet Kenny Werle With a special occasion dinner only a week away, you go

In this issue, we invite you to meet the man behind the voice.
Kenny Werle was born at the St. Helena Hospital, in the heart
of wine country. He is proud to be a “native Napkin”. His
Napa Valley history dates all the way back to the 1920’s, when
his family first arrived from Germany. After graduating from

2008 Ghost Winery Retail PRice: $40.00/Bottle
Our old stone winery at Flora Springs is one
of a handful of Napa Valley’s famous “Ghost
Wineries.” Built in the 1800’s, it sat vacant for
years after its two Scottish founders, the Rennie brothers, discouraged by
a series of setbacks, abandoned the storied estate. To pay homage to the
happily haunted corners of our winery we took a varietal that has all but
disappeared from our signature wine Trilogy, and created a 100% Cabernet
Franc we call Ghost Winery.
Virginia based artist Wes Freed, best known for the Drive By Truckers CD
covers, created the artwork for our Ghost Winery label. Visit our website to

2009 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay Retail PRice: $30.00/Bottle
In 1980 Flora Springs began its reign as one of the great Chardonnays from
Napa Valley. Disregarding trends, we continue to craft our Barrel Fermented
Chardonnay in a style that has created loyal Chardonnay connoisseurs for the
last 30 years. The 2009 vintage offers rich flavors of peach and pear with a hint
of pineapple on the palate. Each vintage we strive to find a balance between
the rich flavors of our St. Helena and Oakville Chardonnay with the acidity
and minerality of our Carneros fruit. For 2009 we further enhanced the wine
by allowing 21% of the blend to go through malolactic fermentation. You
wouldn’t believe the excitement in the cellar when we passed the final
blend around the table – tropical fruit, richness and complexity.

2008 Holy Smoke Cabernet SauvignonRetail PRice: $85.00/Bottle
The 2008 Holy Smoke shows the alluring vibrancy of a young vineyard
coming into its own, with an attractive, fruit forward youthfulness that
exhibits amazing complexity. After extensive research on this Oakville
Appellation vineyard site, we chose to plant Cabernet Sauvignon clone
4. The exceptional synergy between this clone and site contributes to
a wonderfully bold and complex single-vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet.
Appealing Oakville characteristics of bright and jammy red fruit glide
into big, clean, syrah-like spice enveloped by licorice flavors to create
an exciting mid-palate experience. The soft tannins, a hallmark of
winemaker Paul Steinauer, are fully integrated into the wine, leading to
a long and supple finish with layers of aromas and a delightful hint of
vanilla oak.

St. Helena High School in 1989, Kenny went
off to Humboldt State University where he
majored in Forestry before earning a degree
in Business and Marketing.
Prior to joining Flora Springs in 2003, Kenny
spent time backpacking in Europe and
joined an international pen pal club. “Even
though my pen pals were in their 20s, they
all still lived with their families—there is not
a rush to leave
home after
college like
in America.
My pen pals
invited me
to visit and
I was always
welcomed as
part of the
family.”
Kenny also took time to seek out his German
relatives and discovered that his paternal
grandmother’s side of the family (maiden
name Dettling) traced their ancestry to
medieval times. Members of his family were
knights of a king in the Black Forest region.
Despite his noble heritage and his own coat
of arms, Kenny insists you need not refer to
him as "Sir Kenny."
