Northwestern Argentina: an area full of contrasts where the visitor
becomes submersed in the historic roots of Latin American civilization,
in a landscape of valleys, gorges and small towns where colonial architec-
ture has melted with modern life and some others so deeply stuck in time that
no traces of contemporary life are found. Plunge into a magical ambience
where the fresh air stresses the presence of the colorful hills and the irregular
geological formations of the gorges and where the warm weather and its

DAY 01: San Miguel de Tucumán

DAY 02: San Miguel de Tucumán / Quilmes
Continental breakfast. Departure for a tour to Quilmes ruins. Passing through
the Quebrada de los Sosa (Los Sosa Ravine), viewing the Monument to the
Calchaquí Aborigine and El Mollar with its “Menhires” (monolitic rock stat-
ues) and Tafí del Valle, a wondrous summer resort by the side of an artificial
lake. Visit to the aborigine ruins of Quilmes. Accommodation at Quilmes Inn.

DAY 03: Quilmes / Molinos
Continental brekfast. Departure to Cafayate, through the Calchaquí Valleys,
passing Colalao del Valle at Tolombón. Visit to Cafayate, located 1,700 meters
above sea level. This town is one of those peaceful, colonial-style settlements
that never fails to evoke the feeling of a time long past. In such a wonderful
climate, its vineyards produce a worldwide known wine. Visit to a winery.
The panoramic view of the valleys continues while travelling the Quebrada de
las Conchas (also known as Cafayate Gorge) with colorful rock formations
carved by the wind: the 'Amphitheatre', the 'Castle', the 'Priest', the 'Devil’s
Throat'. Afterwards the tour will go on northwest bound, along a mountain
road, passing by small typical villages devoted to peppermint farming such as
Animaná, el Barrial and San Carlos. Arrival at Molinos. Accommodation at a
charming inn built in the XIX century from where it is possible to get a won-
derful view down to the valleys. Dinner.
DAY 04: Molinos / Cachi / Salta
Continental breakfast. Departure for San José de Cachi an ancient town
founded in the XVII century at the foot of the white snow-covered peak of
Cachi, with a wonderful view of the surrounding valleys. Visit to the archaeo-
logical museum and the parish church. Following the route, across Los
Cardones National Park, with its huge abundance of this giant cactuses,
upwards Cuesta del Obispo, called the Condor’s home, reaching 3,720 meters
above sea level with a colorful view of the Calchaquí Valleys, a natural treas-
ure located in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. Afternoon
arrival in Salta. Accommodation at Hotel. Dinner.
DAY 05: Salta
Departure for a drive along the historic Humahuaca Gorge, passing León,
Volcán, Tumbaya, Purmamarca framed by the Seven-Colored Hill, Tilcara
with its archaeological museum and the old refurbished indian fortress
(known as Pucará de Tilcara), and Uquía Church, finally arriving in
Humahuaca. Visit to the Handicraft Fair. On the way back to Salta it will be
interesting to stop at Jujuy for a visit of this nice city. Afternoon arrival in
Salta. Accommodation at Hotel. Dinner.
DAY 06: Salta
Day at leisure for optional tours. Accommodation at Hotel. Dinner.
DAY 07: Salta
City tour visiting the major points of interest and transfer to the local airport.
Optional tours:Tren a las Nubes (Train to the Clouds) to Viaducto La Polvorilla (The
Polvorilla Viaduct), 214 km away at 4,200 meters at sea level, admiring the
changing colors of the sharp rocks. The highest spot of this trip is the amaz-
ing crossing of the viaduct suspended on the abyss on fabulous pillars.
(Saturdays from May to October).
Safari Movitrack following the famous track of the “Train of the Clouds”
through the Del Toro Gorge to San Antonio de los Cobres; reaching then the
Salinas Grandes (Grand Salt Pits) in Jujuy by crossing the Puna; and at last
on the way back, the downhill trip of Lipan that will allow a visit to the pic-
turesque village of Purmamarca. Return to Salta.

DAY 04: Salta
Continental breakfast. Departure towards a densely forested area in the out-
skirts of Salta to enjoy a birdwatching tour, with guides specialized in
ornithology, to see the typical bird species typical of Northwest Argentina,
which outstands for their immense beauty and great variety. Do not miss the
imposing flight of the Condor and the continuous fluttering of the little birds
in the lusty forest. Return to Salta. Accommodation.
DAY 05: Salta / Tilcara
Continental breakfast. Early departure on another Movitrack Safari following
the tracks of the famous "Train to the Clouds". The tour stops several times
along the impressive "Quebrada del Toro" (Bull’s Gorge), until reaching San
Antonio de los Cobres (3,775 meters high). Then the trip goes on along the old
route 40 through the Puna till the Salinas Grandes (Grand Salt Pit). Several
stops in the way will allow you to take pictures of the vast landscape and the
llamas. After crossing a 4,000 metres high pass, the way goes down the spiral-
like route of Cuesta de Lipan through the Purmamarca Valley till the historical
village of the same name, where the Seven Color Hill provides a most attrac-
tive backdrop. After a walk in this nice village which has an important handi-
craft market, you will go on to Tilcara, another village situated in the famous
Quebrada de Humahuaca (Humahuaca Gorge). Dinner. Accommodation.
DAY 06: Tilcara / Salta
Continental breakfast. The morning starts with a walking tour in Tilcara
fortress ruin site, on the top of a low hill surrounded by large cactuses. Then
on to Humahuaca Village to discover a town where people continue keeping
many old time traditions in their everyday life combined with many traits of
modernity. In the afternoon, return to Salta stopping for a while at San
Salvador de Jujuy, for a short visit of the most interesting places in the city.
Visit to a traditional farm in Salta, located in the middle of an area covered
by subtropical vegetation. Arrival in Salta. Accommodation.
DAY 07: Salta / Buenos Aires
Continental breakfast. Transfer to local airport to board flight to Buenos
Aires.

and Cuesta del Obispo (Bishop's Slope). Along Recta de Tin-Tin route, travel
through the National Park Los Cardones to reach the old village of Cachi,
placed at the foot of the snow covered peak of Mount Cachi (6,380 meters
high). On a picturesque little road, skirt the fertile valleys of the Calchaquí
River through little villages such us Molinos, Angastaco and San Carlos, and
later cross the impressive Quebrada de las Flechas (Arrows Gorge).
Accommodation at a fascinating hotel placed close to the Quilmes ruins.
DAY 03: Quilmes / Salta
Continental breakfast. Visit the aborigine ruins and then continue with the
Movitrack to Cafayate to know and "taste" the main activity of this valley, the
wine production. On the way back to Salta, travel through the amazing land-
scape of the Quebrada de las Conchas (Calchaquí River Gorge) with its fasci-
nating rock formations that will be greatly admired from the open roof of the
Movitrack and visit Santa Anita, a traditional goat diary farm. Arrival in Salta

DAY 04: San Pedro de Atacama
Early departure to visit the Tatio Geyser (4,300 meters above sea level), a
geothermic field surrounded by high summits, where violent water-spouts
spring up at sunrise, and the coloring of the soil and sky stands out among
the steam columns at the light of the first sunbeams. In the afternoon, tour to
the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) an outstandingly beautiful geological for-
mation. Continue to Calama. Visit to this small depression of saline soil sur-
rounded by amazing hills. Lunch en route. Return to the hotel..
DAY 05: San Pedro de Atacama / San Salvador de Jujuy
Breakfast. Departure from San Pedro de Atacama passing by Susques, a tiny
colonial town; Quebrada Mal Paso (Mal Paso Gorge). Finally arrive at Salinas
Blancas (White Salt Pit), a place of striking beauty. Then Cuesta de Lipan (Lipan
Slope) starts and leads upwards to the plateau at 4,170 meters above sea level.
From that point, observe the salt plains reflecting the blue sky, which makes them
look like an enormous hill-surrounded sea. Proceed to Purmamarca, with the
Seven Colored Hill at its back. Lunch. Arrival in Jujuy. Accommodation at hotel.
DAY 06: San Salvador de Jujuy
Continental breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
Take part in one of the most amazing experiences: crossing the
Andes doing part of the route by the worldwide known “Train to the
Clouds”. Be impressed by the beautiful landscape and the overpowering silence
of the Puna. Discover the typical town of San Antonio de los Cobres and go on to
Chile to visit the Atacama Salt Pit, where pink flamingos are the main attraction.

the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt pit in Chile, arrive in San Pedro de

Salta is the Argentine city where the Spanish influence is best
preserved. Enjoy its touch of elegance that talks of a sumptuous past
that is still alive in its large old houses and flowery courtyards. Also visit
Cafayate, a beautiful village in the Calchaquí Valleys famous for its wine pro-
duction. And do not miss the gorgeous landscapes of the Humahuaca Gorge

landscapes of the country. Pass through Chicoana, a small village devoted to
tobacco plantations, continue along Cuesta del Obispo, called the home of the
condor, reaching 3,720 meters above sea level, with a colorful view of the val-
leys up to the Enchanted Valleys where it is still possible to discover the foot-
prints of the dinosaurs and pre-hispanic pictographs. Continue along Recta del
Tin-Tin passing through Los Cardones National Park with its astounding abun-
dance of this giant cactuses. Then follow the route to San José de Cachi at the
foot of the white snow-covered peak of Cachi. Visit to the archaeological muse-
um and the church in the ancient town, founded in the XVII century. Passing near

After continental breakfast, continue northwards along the Humahuaca Gorge,
and eastwards up to the village of Iruyá. Arrival at lunch time. At the gate of the
mountain range leading to La Puna, this small hidden town provides the very
off-the-beaten-track feeling. Almost hanging from the mountain, Iruyá boasts the
silent magnificence of the ancient aborigine culture. On the way back to Tilcara,
visit the towns of Uquía and Huacalera. Return to Tilcara. Accommodation.
DAY 04: Tilcara / San Salvador de Jujuy
After continental breakfast, return to San Salvador de Jujuy. According to flight
departure, you can take an optional excursion in the area (Yala-Termas de
Reyes lagoons, San Pedro and Ledesma). Lunch and transfer to local airport.
Tour along the Humahuaca Gorge, a deep valley caused by the erosion
of the Grande River. Witness the aborigine traditions still remaining in
some towns like Purmamarca, situated next to the famous Seven Colored Hill
or the fairly accesible Iruya; and see the influences of Spanish art in some oth-
ers such us Tilcara, with its narrow streets and colonial style houses.

DAY 04: Finca El Manantial
Breakfast. This is an elegant estancia but where you will fell the huge kind-
ness of its owners, who will offer to you all their hospitality as to a most wel-
comed guest. The perfect place to enjoy the contact with nature in this beau-
tiful landscape in the Andes foothill. Trekking on the mountains for condor-
spotting, horseback riding, visiting a dairy farm or a working mill built by the
Jesuits in 1750, are some of the activities in which you will spend your time

and continuing to Quilmes, where the ruins of an old aborigine settlement are
located. After a short visit to this interesting achaeological site you will con-
tinue to Cafayate, visiting a wine cellar. Continue then to Molinos, passing by
Angastaco and San Carlos. Arrival in Molinos. Accommodation at the local
inn which was the house of the last Spanish governor in Salta. Dinner.
DAY 03: Molinos / Finca El Manantial
Breakfast. Departure to Cachi, a typical little colonial village. Visit to the
Archaeological Museum. Then continue through Cuesta del Obispo (3,300
meters above the sea) and Escoipe Gorge to Finca El Manantial. Dinner.

Authentic stately country house set at the foot of the Andean precordillera with an exceptional
view of Lerma Valley. 10 km from the main house a stoned house preserves an old corn mill
which belonged to the Jesuit Priests.
Location: La Silleta, 23 km from Salta city, in Salta province, 15 minutes south of Salta airport.
Accommodation facilities: 1 single, 7 double and 1 triple room, each of them with private bath-
room.
Production: it has a dairy and a pig farm that supply, along with its garden and orchad, all-fresh
ingredients for a varied menu.
Activities in the estancia: walks, horseback rides, trekking, mountain bike, four-wheel-drive
vehicles, tennis court, paddle, swimming, farm activities observation , visit the dairy shed, pork
breeding.
Activities in the surrounding area: it is possible to take the “Train to the Clouds” from Campo

Río Baker (Chile)
Attractive lodge built over piles on the shore of Bertrand Lake, giving the appearance of being
suspended on the lake.
Location: 300 km aproximately from Perito Moreno, Santa Cruz. Bordering Buenos Aires lake
towards Chile Chico, first chilean settlement on the border along the shore of the lake (named
General Carreras in Chile), up to the begining of Baker River. Also accessible through Baker-
Roballos border pass.
Accommodation facilities: 4 double rooms with private bathroom and central dinning room.
Activities in the estancia: walks, trekking, fishing (brown and rainbow trouts).
Telken
Settled in 1915, Telken is an old Patagonian estancia run by its owners. Awarded the “Thousand
Stars Ranch” prize in 1995.
Location: 25 km South of Perito Moreno, in Santa Cruz Province.
Accommodation facilities: it can accommodate 11 people.
Production: equine and ovine cattle.
Activities in the estancia: walks, trekking, horseback rides, archaeological expeditions (10 km
away we can find petroglyphs).
Activities in the surrounding area: visit Pinturas River and the Cave of the Painted Hands,
Buenos Aires Lake, Los Antiguos, Chile-Chico or Zeballos area.

El Bordo de las Lanzas
El Bordo de las Lanzas is one of the oldest agricultural and cattle breeding estancias in the
province of Salta. Comprising 2,500 hectares (6,180 acres) it is also run as a modern business.
The estancia abounds with numerous species of indigenous trees and there are many varieties
of exotic plants in the extensive garden surrounding the house. The abundant flora and fauna
provide incomparable opportunities for the nature enthusiasts, expert naturalists and lovers of
the outdoors.
Location: in the Andean foothills on the fertile plain of the Siancas Valley, in Salta province, 60
km from Salta and 70 km from San Salvador de Jujuy.
Accommodation facilities: 6 rooms
Production: 2,500 hectares in production.The estancia produces tobacco, sugar cane, cotton,
beans, maize, vegetables, and raises cattle. Pedigree Peruvian Paso horses are bred in the farm
together with polo and riding horses. Pigs, sheeps, turkeys, chickens, ducks, are raised to feed
the family, guests and estancia workers. There is also a large vegetable garden and orchad,
which produces tropical fruits used to make jams, marmalades, chutneys, preserves and sauces.
Activities in the estancia: walks, trekking, horseback rides, fishing, birdwatching, visiting the
caiman reserve of the ranch.

Finca San Antonio
Finca San Antonio used to belong to the Jesuit Priests who settled in this place in the second
half of the XVII century. The Cornejo Becker family, actual owners, have been handling the
estancia for more than one hundred years.
Location: Lerma Valley, in Salta Province, 37 km from Salta.
Accommodation facilities: 8 rooms - 1 suite and 7 double rooms.
Production: agriculture and cattle breeding. Polo horses breeding.
Activities: swimming, horseback rides, walking around the tobacco plantations, share in the

Hostal Provincial de Molinos
Hostal Provincial de Molinos is a very particular building since it's an authentic testimony of the
American Colonial architecture. It was first built in 1530 dating the restored main house from
1713.
