NHS Health Check
• National cardiovascular risk assessment programme which aims to prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease and raise awareness of dementia.
• In April 2013 became mandated public health service in England.
• Local authorities have legal duties to• Offer health checks to eligible people once every 5 years• Deliver health checks• Ensure individuals are told their results & CVD risk score• Information is forwarded to GP (when HC conducted outside GP)• Improve uptake rate• Report local NHS Health Check data to central government

Main causes of death in perspective for the East of England
• The causes of death are different to the risks leading to death
• The main cause of death is due to heart & circulatory disorders

Main preventable risks leading to death for the East of England
• The main risks leading to death are high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol and obesity.
• For men; smoking, high BP and high Cholesterol
• For women; high BP, high cholesterol and obesity
• All these risks are assessed at an NHS Health Check

• Been going since 2009, but national programme began in 2013.
• Use multiple providers GP’s, Pharmacies, Workplace & Prison
• Coverage across most of Norfolk

• Activity level – huge variation between pharmacies
• Some pharmacies doing health
checks on younger men (key group).
