THIS is the first glimpse of Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s new £40million civic centre.

The Sentinel today revealsdesigns for the council’s kaleido-scope-style HQ – which creatorssay is inspired by Clarice Cliffpottery, pictured below.

Construction is to begin inApril on the first of two counciloffice buildings in Hanley’s Cent-ral Business District (CBD).

Developer Genr8 todaylaunches a public consultation onthe offices, to be built on the site ofthe former Unity House.

It will replace civic buildings inStoke, which are now up for sale.

Architects behind the plan sayit will deliver energy efficiencyand a ‘stunning skyline’.

Designer Michael Clarksaid: “Some people willgulp but more will seewhat we’re trying toa ch i eve. ”

Deal could see£740k repaidCITY councilleaders say they arekeeping a close eyeon Port Vale’stakeover as they lookto recoup cash afterspending £2.3 million tohelp keep the club inbu s i n e s s.

Paul Wildes and NormanSmurthwaite are to meet theFootball League and hope toclose the deal in 10 days.

It will ultimately see Stoke-on-Trent City Council recoverabout £740,000 from the£2.3 million it is owed from a2006 loan and cash it providedto help keep the club afloat.

Council leader MohammedPervez said: “The city councilhas done all it can to supportPort Vale and we very muchhope the new bidder issuccessful and that the clubnow has a bright future.
